With us, the United Methodist Church (since we share a name) got very involved in Post DP- SMU, (they of course never got that involved with our sister school USC when they were paying players). The mores shown by Baylor would be horrific to the average pew sitting cooperative program donating, Texas Baptist. So, if the denomination flexes its muscle in this Baylor may be back at the bottom of the Big XII. They may require BYU or Liberty type rules of players and students to ensure this type of thing doesn't happen again.

USC hasn't had ties to the Methodist Church since 1952.

Baptists are enraged that gay people want to get married. Yet most of them sit on Twitter and Baylorfans.com complaining that this rape stuff is "unfair" to Baylor's football program.

Seems like the Baptist church needs a reformation. Quit worrying about women in the pulpit and gays getting married. There are bigger things to worry about.

It seems Baylor's current strategy is taking shape:

1) Patty Crawford (currently blowing the whistle) has mental problems. Here are the texts and e-mails that show where we were concerned about her mental health. Don't pay any attention to the 5 star performance reviews we gave her. If she is speaking against Baylor clearly she has mental problems. They are going to rally around some of the mid to upper level leadership who actually know where the bodies are buried (Ramsower).

2) Baylor is going to drip information out laying it on Art Briles. He can't speak out because he loses his buyout. They will have to be careful they don't go to far - see Mike Pressler vs. Duke. (After their settlement the head of communications for Duke spoke publicly about the lacrosse program, Mike Pressler and John Danowski. Mike Pressler took them back to court and got his non disclosure agreement lifted from his settlement). The last thing Baylor wants is Briles naming names when he realizes no one will hire him. The rest of the staff has bull's eyes on them, but they won't realize it until the end of the season.

3) They are going to use morally impeachable spokespeople (The two Baptist preachers and the lady board members - after all, what woman is in favor of rape?). They will give their mea culpas and promise change. There will be just enough change for the school to say they are changing.

4) Play for time... eventually the news cycle will find something else to focus on. Take your lumps in the short term, but in the long-term this will be forgotten (expensive, but forgotten).

They shouldn't be too sure about that. What is considered the long term? Almost 30 years now and SMU and "DP" still come up together all the time like they are joined at the hip...and that was just for paying players.

I was hanging out with a Pedophile State fan watching their game against Ohio St. The amount of Jerry Sandusky talk was almost insignificant (compared to how atrocious the crimes are). The story would have mostly faded away, except for the JoePa apologists who want their statue back. The world has moved on... to Baylor. In several years, Baylor's will fade into the background.

Part of the reason for the DP being relived/brought up at SMU to this day is that the school killed all of their atheltic programs for 20+ years. SMU never came back in any significant way. We only created a history of ineptitude for those years... the easy answer - the catalyst for that ineptitude was the DP. If we came back and created a winning (or even competitive) program... We live in a different world with the rare mention of the DP.

True - you certainly hear more about our Death Penalty than the Murder and coverup that already took place at Baylor.

NCAA dinged us harder on the LB cause of the DP, yet media hardly mentions that this program already had one of the most out of control scandals in all of college sports.

Feds seek Record $2.4 Million Dollar Fine Against Penn St-

added for discussion and analogy to Baylor situation. Quite frankly seems like chump change but Penn St as an Institution did pay out that settlement relatively early in conjunction with NCAA decision-What was that a couple of hundred Million? This may be as bad or worse-although Penn St involved young minors

SMU viewed our scandal very differently than PSU and Baylor view theirs. Our problems went all the way to the top of the Board of Trustees. They were neutered, and a band of faculty who had long thought that big time sports are incompatible with the goal of the university took control a la Ken Pye who did all he could to kill D1 sports. A small but determined group of donors kept the programs on life support.

PSU and Baylor view their scandals as the misfortune of having a few bad eggs fouling an otherwise reputable pursuit: D1 athletic success.

Wish Baylor had the same guts as Harvard and what they did to their men's soccer team this week,

As an alternative, perhaps the big 12 should switch them out for a different nearby private school that is much better academically and provides access to a top 4 media market. Plus have alums who aren't bat [deleted] crazy.

Just a thought.

It's quite possible that the reason the Big 12 did not add two recently, is because they want to wait and see if they have to add three...
