@Hoopmanx 1m1 minute ago More SMU basketball has a filthy backcourt next season. Shake Milton, Jimmy Whitt, Jahmal McMurray, Elijah Landrum and Will Douglas..just nasty
Interesting that McDowell didn't make the list in that tweet. Is there a place for him going forward? He's definitely struggled this year, but I really like his hustle. And he's stuck it out rather than bail like the Aussies. I respect that.
Either get in there and work your butt off, or find somewhere to play. Getting minutes on this team for this program now has to be earned. No more free rides.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four 2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
I hope McDowell stays. I think he can develop into a solid player with more playing time and better understanding of the system. This is a veteran team with no ability to make mistakes due to our limited scholarship numbers. We can't keep running off freshmen. College is a huge adjustment period.
It took Ben Emelogu some time to adjust, and now look how much of an asset he has been this season.

It will be about if McDowell is willing to put in the work and wait his turn. I hope he does. I didn't see him getting big minutes next year before the McMurray commit, but he could as a junior If he really works his butt off.
One thing I see is kind of a positive even though it is a negative. Is since McMurray is an eligible until late December, it will allows Douglas and Landrum to get some PT and show what they can do during the OOC. Excited for McMurray in a small sample size he had hoped his scoring and shooting percentages from his frosh to Soph year at USF. Had 25pts and hit 5-7 from 3 against South Carolina in one of his 3 games this year.

He has 1/2 of next season, and all of the following year (his senior year) assuming he stays. There was talk of him thinking of going pro after he was suspended at USF.

So is this correct if everyone were to stay the max amount of time?
Last year of eligibility:
2016/2017 - Brown, Moore 2017/2018 - Emelogu, Ojeleye (and hopefully a grad transfer big) 2018/2019 - Milton, Foster, Whitt, McMurray 2019/2020 - McDowell 2020/2021 - Chargois, Ray, Douglas, Landrum
a positive with this commitment is that he has shown he can play at this level already-less of a gamble that his game translates to an AAC level team. While we bridge the probation gap we need kids that are ready to play now
