I think Dkes is a good G5 coach and that is why he will probably stays at SMU for a while over any other offer outside of TTech.

I don't think this hire can be graded, yet. Hart is the guy paid to make the hard decisions like this, and he will likely either be a hero or zero (no in between) with this hire. I am willing to give both him and Dykes the benefit of the doubt, though, and support them and our team until they prove I shouldn't.

Not sexy. Not my first choice. But ultimately could have been our best choice. IΓÇÖm glad our search was pretty quiet. While I donΓÇÖt like Patterson and TCU I like the fact he got to spend time over there.

Couple of things, taken from wikipedia.
- Dude has a BA in Nuclear Engineering. It may be from Texas Tech, but still...
- Shortly after being named Cal's head coach, Dykes stated that the "most important hire that I make is hiring a defensive coordinator that will come in and get to work from Day 1 and get a defense established." Went out and hired a crap defensive coordinator.
- Another coach that apparently never played college football. He played baseball at Texas Tech.
- California Athletic Director Mike Williams has stated that Dykes had never "settled into California, the Bay Area or the Cal experience" as reasons for the firing.

not the best hire but we could have done worse. I hope we all give him a chance to prove if he can move us forward or not. disappointed that we couldn't get sumlin, orlando or miles but I guess hart spent too much time on the sidelines and not enough time smoozing donors to get the money for those hires

Hard to grade until I see how good his hype squad is next season

Based on the poll it looks like most people are relatively happy with the decision.

The most damning part is that thereΓÇÖs only 63 voters.

Sounds about right based on the posts on this board and the butts in the seats.

61 posters to 15k butts in the stands. We will see a full house when we get like 122 posters!

B is the leading vote getter? This is why SMU will never be considered an Ivy, grade inflation!

We will be fine and he will be a better AAC coach than JJ. Good thing about Dykes is that he has Texas ties.

Give the hire a B. Dykes has Texas ties, plays an offense heavy on the pass. NEEDS a top notch DC. Smart guy but my first choice would have been Sumlin. (smu-lin lol)
Comet - Like your thoughts. This is a solid hire.
Tailgate starts at 3 in parking lot of SMU entrance.
