Dykes' response to this was great...

"Because it's either him (Kinne), the TE coach, or the drunk guy in the first row"

I had no idea that Steve Sarkisian was going to be at the game.

Honesty and a sense of humor are refreshing.

I find it interesting and somewhat refreshing that this staff is placing so much confidence and reliability on Hicks to make decisions and help coach. This speaks volumes for the development of Hicks and the flexibility of the staff. One of my pet peeves is that in so many sports today the players have so little input into game decisions. As a high school baseball coach I always wanted my pitchers and catchers to make the calls to learn the game. Obviously, I would make some calls and would work with their understanding of the game/opposition, but they needed to learn the game. I was virtually the only coach in the league that did not make every call and decision. Their kids were dependent cripples in understanding and learning the game. My feeling is that football suffers from the same mentality at all levels. The players are merely pawns, have little input and that games are simply scripted products of an OCs vs.DCs.

Spike Dykes and Abe Lemmons - I miss reading about them.

Those front four they got, I’ll tell ya, they’re something else. They could go bear hunting with a switch.” — Spike Dykes on Baylor’s 1990 defensive line and the last group’s impressive play against Nebraska earlier in the season
