Re: Jank has to go, right?
No-one should expect the school or any donor to pay to remove Jank. This is a big decision and there are far more factors than are hinted at on here.
Hart should go before Jank. It’s that simple.

What are you suggesting? He is rapidly killing this program.Mustangsabu wrote:No-one should expect the school or any donor to pay to remove Jank.

Hart doesn’t have the balls to pull the trigger on Jank. He will let this program die a slow death. He will then sign his death certificate as a result and get the axe as a result. Your choice Rick

Yeah just waiting on Rick to start [deleted] gold bullion to cover the buyout, a new staff, and a new HC. Can’t believe the lazy [deleted] hasn’t gotten around to it sooner.
You think they’d screen these people.

We all know Jank isn’t going anywhere unless Miller takes both of them head on

Re: Jank has to go, right?
If you were Miller would you want your name attached to a program that will likely be one of the worst in the country next year and a bottom feeder in your conference? would you want to see your arena with about 2k fans as opposed to the sellouts a few years ago? Let's hope pride and ego over rule any inaction by Hart and we have a new coach at the end of this season.

Bottom line is that - if an alum does not step in - I don't think any change will be made.

Re: Jank has to go, right?
Bring in a coach next month who will address the alums and students. Tell everyone who will listen we are getting back to winning conference championships and making the tourney very soon. Rather than constantly talking about sanctions, injuries and whining, tell us about how great this program was a few years ago and how we are about to get right back there. Keep Hunt, Mike, Chaggy & Whitt onboard. Bring in a couple of capable grad transfers to fill out this class. Schedule a few name OOC opponents and just compete, don’t whine. Give the fan base hope. If that happens, people will jump right back in. This can be solved.redpony wrote:If you were Miller would you want your name attached to a program that will likely be one of the worst in the country next year and a bottom feeder in your conference? would you want to see your arena with about 2k fans as opposed to the sellouts a few years ago? Was SMU omitted here because there is absolutely no good reason to retain Tank or is it simply because we are already irrelevant?

Coaching buyouts at pretty much every university are alumni funded...

Richard Pitino would be a definite upgrade to what we have. And we could have dad come in as a "consultant".

Pitino Jr is as bad, or worse than Jank.PonyTime wrote:Richard Pitino would be a definite upgrade to what we have. And we could have dad come in as a "consultant".

Re: Jank has to go, right?
That certainly appears to be the case. The point I was making is that these issues will never be resolved with the current leadership on a university level.Bergermeister wrote:What are you suggesting? The reality is Jank is not bringing in high level talent, or it certainly appears that way. But, as is always the question, is he worse than any other coach we can afford to bring in? If the players like and respect him and he runs a good program, then maybe that's just where we are at. If we can't afford to buy him out AND pay a top caliber coach to come in, then I think there is a real question as to the utility of firing him, especially coming off sanctions, injuries, etc. (not saying I buy the excuse but the optics may not be ideal).
To be clear, I am not defending Jank. I am saying that this is an administrative decision that involves practicalities and financing and SMU has delegated significant financial decision making to Alumni. What is needed is a leader, and it is a leader which is lacking.

Re: Jank has to go, right?
Ricky Jr has landed a top 65 national player in each of his last three classes and numerous top 200s to fill out the classes beating out Kansas, Xavier, Georgia Tech, Texas, Arizona, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and A&M for recruits. Currently in the game for the #8 prospect in the country against Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, and everyone else on the planet.smupony94 wrote:Pitino Jr is as bad, or worse than Jank.PonyTime wrote:Richard Pitino would be a definite upgrade to what we have. Sounds so much like Jank - but Jank is obviously better.
And don't get me started on Ricky's cakewalk scheduling - that 16-8 overall mark is padded with non conference wins against the likes of Texas A&M, Utah, Washington, and Oklahoma State.
He never had to prep for Bradley, Lipscomb or Southern Miss like Jank.
