We could very well win, say, 10 games and end up in an irrelevant bowl playing an irrelevant team when the team absolutely deserves more.
That's frustrating.
Yeah, but eff it. Win the bowl no matter where it is. Extra practices and great momentum for the next season. The best thing is to play a "name" school and whip them to put it on the resume.

And a soccer school. Still undefeated and currently ranked #4.

Big 12 champ automatically gets a Sugar Bowl invite. If the champ goes to the playoff the runner up goes to the Sugar. Texas would have to finish 3rd in the Big 12 but somehow still be ranked high enough to get the Cotton. Had they beat LSU but lost two conference games I could see it happening. But since they lost to LSU the odds of them somehow missing out on the Big 12 title game but still being a 10 win team are not very good.

Not sure how closely SI has studied remaining schedule... Ole Miss getting to 6 wins is questionable. Would be a fun game, though. I'd buy tickets the day it's announced.

It’s Texas. They’ll find a way to drop a couple games.
But even if they don’t, if we’re 13-0 then I hope we are considered for a better bowl than Birmingham.

But this discussion is a helluva lot more fun than lamenting the season midway through.

Still have to get by Tulsa, Temple and Tulane...all teams that have looked pretty stout at times this season...not to mention winning road games at Houston, Navy & Memphis and IF we are fortunate enough to win the West, we would probably face UCF and very likely AT UCF. I would be thrilled with a 10-2 or even a 10-3 finish which should still get SMU into a pretty good bowl game. Cotton Bowl might be our only chance to ever play Texas again because they have made it clear they are never going to schedule us voluntarily.
