Other than Rice we’re the best academic school in play in Texas. Baylor and TCU would not move meter for UNC, Duke, UVA, Wake Forest, BC, U and Syracuse would not want those two. They might give in on WV (who were left behind when BE broke up), to get SMU.

Agree. IMO the big problem is attractive/interesting competition. USF and some of the other schools in the AAC just don't move the needle for Dallas fans. Clemson and some of the other ACC schools would pack the house. Even cougar high helps to fill our stadium when they played here.
A move to the MWC would even further empty our stands with less interesting teams and competition.

100%. Maybe Boise State might draw a decent crowd but that's about it because of their historical name value. Basketball games might be more filled but that's not what drives realignment.

I haven't seen any positive news yet but maybe we have to wait for other conferences to make moves to get the dominos going.

Honestly a typical ACC schedule isn't going to excite Dallas people anyway. There's only one Clemson, and games like Virginia Tech and Miami and UNC would do well, maybe even FSU based on history. Louisville would certainly bring a crowd, but after that there is a whole lot of Wake, Duke, Boston College, Syracuse--even Pitt and Georgia Tech and NC State--for which Dallas wouldn't necessarily show up. Notre Dame would be fun, of course, assuming they stay half-in.

dukie- don't agree. Schools like Duke, BC, Ga. Tech and NC state all have name recognition and would likely draw a lot more than Temple or a florida directional school..
Plus the additional funds would allow for more marketing etc. to help build our brand.

Would Boston College really draw more than Temple? Marginal. But sure, overall the typical ACC school will draw more than the typical AAC school. But not really that much more. A lot of those teams don't even travel well as away fans even when it's a bus-ride game in the old Georgia-to-Virginia ACC footprint.

Despite the distance, ACC fans may travel more that we might expect. Dallas is a wonderful destination and DFW makes it very easy with non-stops from most cities. Also, our academic and athletic profile compares favorable with ACC schools. You could make the case for PAC12 schools, as well.

SMU is a Diamond (in the rough = TX)

If you want butts in seats, then invite UTEP and Louisiana Tech. UTEP brings usually 10,000.

Oh well we can keep dreaming this will happen but until there's rumors we have to assume nothing is going to happen in the short run. All we can do is win win.

Baylor's sicem365 had a consultant on their show and he illustrated why SMU and USF will be teams #15 and #16 to Big12 and how/why it will occur. Here is the youtube link for those interested:

Thank you for the share. That was an interesting presentation and made alot of sense on this realignment. Hopefully he's right on how things move but if we improved our sport performance then we would better align with ACC and Big10 teams since we are better academically than most of the Big 12.

Something mentioned in the presentation was MONEY. I have long felt that Tillman F. had his hands all over the cougar high move. Offering what ever was needed to get them in (probably including a lot of payola). Also shows that Fred Smith (fed-x) has told the little8 that he will do what ever is necessary to get memphis in when the next expansion comes.
These people are doing what is necessary to upgrade the conference level of their schools.
Meanwhile in Dallas we have a president who does nothing to move us up and we have no boosters in the same strata as Tillman and Smith trying to get us into a better conference.
Most likely we are going to remain in a failing second class conference with less revenue in the future than what we currently receive.
And all the while our little ricky is thinking about how to do a re-seat in fball and drive more fans away.

Memphis to renovate Liberty Bowl, including new naming rights, or less certain, build an on-campus stadium. They are telling the Big XII that they will spend the money.

Based on the info Fred Smith has told the little8 that they (he) will make sure the Liberty Bowl is renovated. I guess we can assume he will be funding a major part of this.

What happens if the PAC finally get its act together and offer both TCU and SMU? The two of us have a great deal to offer, including 12 games in the Central time zones.
