I'll play, although begrudgingly...
I may sound like a broken record, but, if Sonny can't say no to FW, then I would nominate:
Jim Leavitt.
It would be difficult to retain Sonny's staff, but Leavitt has contacts and I bet he could muster a very capable group of assistants.

Lashlee will be available soon. He built a hell of an offense with less talent than they have now.

IMO we really need a coach who will keep Samples and maybe Levitt.

Can you explain the humor in this? I would put those two up against anyone recruiting wise!

TCU is obviously waiting on a coach to make a hire or they would have made an announcement. Has anyone looked at their list of candidates - Sonny, Napier and a couple of Coordinators. Napier is going to have a bigger opportunity than TCU! My list of candidates: 1) Jeff Traylor (probably not going to happen and we would have to "groval" - would be worth the extra $7.5MM); 2) Billy Napier (would have to pistol whip him with cash and still not likely, but worth the call) 3) Tom Herman (he knows Texas); 4) Gary Patterson (promise him a 3 foot taller statue if he gets us to P5 - I know he can be a pain in the rear, but I think we could tolerate him if was our pain in the rear. Would certainly make for an interesting 9/24/22!); 5) Deion Sanders (sounds crazy, but we would have unbelievable recruiting classes and he would truely make us Dallas' team); 6) Justin Fuente (he did a great job at Memphis and now has a "chip" on his shoulder); 7) Kendal Briles (offensive genius and has worked with some of the best head coaches);

Alex Grinch (Def. Coor. Oklahoma); 9) Mike Elko (Def. Coor. A&M); 10) Graham Harrell (USC Off. Coor.) Now 2 candidates that Turner would not let us consider, but I would - Art Briles who I still consider the best coach in Texas and Hugh Freeze (Liberty). Other considerations, but without "Texas ties" - Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Car.) and Shawn Clark (App. State).
Let me suggest a U. of Houston move - lets go hire the entire U of Miami staff. Manny Diaz is the head coach and Rhett Lashlee is the O.C. - good Texas recruiting ties. Sounds crazy, but Miami just fired their AD and word is Diaz going soon. Make the move fast so he can be announced before he actually gets removed. The money we were planning as part of the keep Sonny contract would probably work in this situation - around $4MM plus raises for assistants. Let's make a statement! Miami should finish 7-5 this year (last game against Duke) and that is great for a team that played Alabama, AAp. State, Michigan State and the AAC teams.

This is the harsh reality that is SMU. Nothing wrong with wanting the team to succeed, but the culture needs to change in the area. More support, more inclusion more everything. Theres the saying if you build it they will come. Well this program was rebuilt and people still choose not to come. As a former player...it's frustrating. You play for the people next to you and the people who put time and effort into you. Imagine if they had a community to play for

With all due respect. The program was partially rebuilt. Yes, If you are a championship top level winner they will come. example, bball when LB was here. Moody was almost always packed and with well known people. It was the place to see and be seen. Dallas will support a winner.
Fball has not been at a championship top level in many many years. Win the AAC a couple of years and get top 15 rankings and I think people will start coming to support the fball program.
Sadly our coaching situation seems to be wash, rinse and repeat. We consistently lose coaches and have to start over with little continuity. Part of this can be blamed on an inept admin., especially the incompetent AD. HIs claim to pro-active fame is running off loyal bball fans with multiple re-seats.

They should already be talking with Gary Patterson and announce on Tuesday afternoon after the Dykes announcement.
