That statement from him is encouraging. You have to think the NIL money is coming into play.

Also, I don't think he is a sure fire lock to be drafted because of his height. He will no doubt have a profitable professional career, probably a long one too, I think it will be overseas though and not in the NBA. Get the NIL money and the degree and then go overseas.

Something like this would be the winning calculus. Paying KD $250K via NIL would allow him to be near his son in Dallas rather than being in a Milwaukee or across the pond. In other words, it sure looks like proximity to his son and mother are primary drivers for next year, money being second.

I like our chances. Very encouraging.

Those are good thoughts. Perhaps he has talked to another SMU point guard about life overseas with a small child.

Total truth here.
The real question is how much of Jank’s salary does Jank roll over to KD to stay next year? Half a mil should do it. And then a few choice foreign language classes.

If KD stays it would be pretty easy to replace the Weathers boys through the portal.
Our three freshman, the two signees, Big Frank, Lundblade and possibly Band is a decent start.

Good point. Nic’s moved at least two or three times so far. It can’t be easy on family life.

It will be a tall order to replace the Weathers twins. They were an upgrade from Jolly & Chargois and Jolly has gone on to become Iona's leading scorer. The Gaels will probably play in the NCAAs and are at least guaranteed the NIT.

Agreed that it will be VERY difficult to replace the Weathers through the portal. They bring a HUGE amount of toughness, leadership, and will to win. We can replace their skills, but unlikely to replace their hearts.
It would be one thing if KD could make an NBA roster - I just don't see that happening. He does a lot of good things, but still tries to do too much on his own and it really hurts us at times. I just don't see him as an NBA player unless he puts on more muscle, and makes better decisions with the ball.

KD's height works against him at the next level. Little Nic was a really good college PG and is making a living playing overseas, but the NBA is a whole other level of talent and Nic and KD would be playing against much taller guys night in, night out who are just as talented. I'd love to see KD play another year for SMU and continue to mentor Zhuric who hopefully becomes our next stud PG

Have to wonder what Nutall's thinking might be. This hasn't been a very good year for him from an offensive standpoint. We need the guy who torched us for 36 points in 29 minutes last year when he made 12-23 FGs including 6-12 threes and added 6-8 FTs for SHSU
