Re: NIT bound
Nichols State lost @ Baylor and @ TCU this year and had a close loss @ Wisconsin. They were road warriors playing money games and also lost @ Purdue and @ Oregon State but did manage to win @ Northern Iowa, the regular season champion of the Missouri Valley and another team in SMU's NIT bracket. Like SMU, Nichols State is a guard oriented team so this game could be all about who is making threes

Re: NIT bound
These three games need to be, and should be, wins for the Ponies.
Excited to see KD in person again at the very least.

Re: NIT bound
We should beat Nicholls but 2nd round will be tough. Washington State would be a tough match up because they have bigs and Santa Clara throttled TCU 85-66 in Ft Worth, beat BYU & St Mary's and also beat LMU twice, so this NIT will be every bit as challenging to survive and advance from Moody to MSG as it was years ago under Larry BrownMustangs35SMU wrote:These three games need to be, and should be, wins for the Ponies.

Re: NIT bound
It will definitely be a challenge. Don't let the names fool you, but Moody Magic should give us the necessary push as long as our guys are motivated. Let's hang a banner!

had we had Nichols State OOC we'd be in the tournament

Left coast schools that people in the east and even central don't know much about. I hope we can get at least 3,500-4,000 into Moody to support our guys. Let more students in courtside to lead the chargemustangxc wrote:It will definitely be a challenge. Re: NIT bound
Have to admit it was a huge disappointment when our guys lost to Minnesota in the NIT finals as I really thought we were going to give Larry Brown his trifecta adding the NIT Title to his NCAA and NBA Titles. As a New Yorker, I'm sure it would have been special for him to have won in "The Garden"mustangxc wrote: Let's hang a banner!

Agreed. And the Weathers Brothers, Band, etc. Not ready to let this team go quite yet. I kinda fell in love with ΓÇÿem as the season went on.Mustangs35SMU wrote:Excited to see KD in person again at the very least.

Re: NIT bound
Nicholls is ranked 192 NET and had six Quad 4 losses and only one win above Quad 4. Santa Clara and Washington State are ranked in the 60’s, roughly equivalent to Vandy or Dayton. We play solid ball and I see us getting to the quarterfinals against Saint Louis or BYU without too much fuss.
Re: NIT bound
Me too. I selfishly hope Bandoumel and Davis come back, but I don't want to say goodbye to this team yet. These guys are fun as hell to watch.ponyboy wrote:Agreed. It'd be really "fun as hell to watch" some guys who could earn us an invite to the NCAA tournament. SMU is no better than NIT with this group. (not that there is anything wrong with that)

At the game and I still think we would have won if the ref had actually called the Minnesota player stepping out of bounds on the baseline...but who's bitter.Charleston Pony wrote:Have to admit it was a huge disappointment when our guys lost to Minnesota in the NIT finals as I really thought we were going to give Larry Brown his trifecta adding the NIT Title to his NCAA and NBA Titles.
