Also, boil it down and the job of any paper is to sell papers (or online subscriptions) - without them, they go out of business. So yes, headlines are written - just like the selecting of photos - to make people buy/subscribe/click. It's a business
Understood, Pride, but it doesnΓÇÖt mean one has to lie.

I get it. It is indeed a business. And competition is always good.
Speaking of . . . Maybe this new radio station will like us better than the Ticket.
How many UNT grads involved in 97.1 The Freak? Is Corby involved?

Aye to this.,
News(papers) are not in the business of reporting the news. They are in the business of selling news(papers).

PonyTime wrote:I know a lot of you may like him because he is perhaps better than others, but Joseph Hoyt intentionally pushed a salacious headline to get clicks on his story. He even admitted to it (commented to an SMU poster on twitter "see - it made you read the story").
His story got pushed around all over the internet as being a mass exodus of key players from the team as others added their commentary to his initial post. That is not all Joe's fault as most just read the headline and never read the actual story which is behind a paywall. (This is a problem in every form of media these days - write an incriminating headline and then bury the actual truth, which sometimes even counters the headline, in the story that no-one will ever read).
If I were the coaching staff, I would be weary of allowing too much access to Mr. Hoyt. He is in this for himself and if he can hurt the program by pushing a SMU story in this way, he will do so just to get attention and get clicks. He will be on another beat as soon as he has the chance.
This is why I would never subscribe to that trash newspaper.
Well said.

Re: Transferring Out
The headline isnΓÇÖt a lie and calling it salacious is a huge stretch. 2 of the players have been contributors.
I say good riddance to them. We sure will miss RecordΓÇÖs fumbles on special teams

Re: Transferring Out
I guess when good players can't get playing time, that's a good thing. It means we have better players ahead of them. In the short term its bad, if players ahead of them get injured. Wish them good luck in their future careers.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Re: Transferring Out
So, "Multiple Players" has indeed changed to one player confirmed to be sitting out for rest of the season to transfer (Cromartie).
So glad to see that Roderick Dainels may play - I think there is a lot of potential there and he has got some serious speed. Even if he wants to transfer - he needs to have a venue to show off that speed. Hope he gets some PT in conference play.

Re: Transferring Out
We'll see who plays and who doesn't. I would like to think guys would be discussing their status with their coaches and that they would work together so the players can get the most out of their collegiate careers. None of the SMU players mentioned will be playing after their college eligibility expires. Some might actually be forward thinking enough to concern themselves about what school they want to earn a degree from, what they want to do with their lives after football and what school can best help prepare them for that.

Re: Transferring Out
Per DMN's' Joe Hoyt (on Twitter): Roderick Daniels, Isaiah Nwokobia and Record all practiced today. Didn't see Cromartie.

If you donΓÇÖt want to be here then donΓÇÖt let the door hit you in the [deleted] on the way out.
We donΓÇÖt want or need quitters here and if you donΓÇÖt want to be a Mustang then we donΓÇÖt want you anyway.
Real effing simple. Good bye and good riddance

ThatΓÇÖs kind of a rough take. Sometimes guys just donΓÇÖt fit and need a second chance elsewhere.

Re: Transferring Out
I'd caution that coming out to practice doesn't necessarily mean that they are deciding not to redshirt.
Also, could be that they have been convinced that getting more tape in games is going to get them more exposure and more options for transfer. None of them are going to want to leave SMU for a lower quality school.
Hopefully Daniels saw that he is going to get immediate playing time with Bailey hurt and NWO saw the enormous need at safety, and so they have both reconsidered.
