Woah ... fired IN THE LOCKER ROOM after loss to Army? If they wanted to fire him, fine, but there's a right way to do it, and this isn't it. He represented the academy very well for a long time and won a lot of games with limited resources and recruiting options. The AD should be ashamed.

If in fact this was the case, that is a bush-league move...AD sends a message, sure. Next coach will be (or should be)...uh...ready during negation of the contract.

Aggie is saying, "I wish we could (afford to) do that!".

The team wasn’t there in the locker room. But agreed that the AD should have slept on it.

I would hope the team wasn't in there. If that were the case, the AD should have been fired on the spot, too. But either way, you don't do it there. You have a meeting in your office, behind closed doors. Be professional about it and show some respect to a coach who has earned it.

The Split Zone Duo podcast guys did a great breakdown of the situation with all the service academies, how it got this point, and what the future looks like for Navy. Worthwhile listen.

Suffice it to say Ken shouldn't have been surprised it went down like this, particularly after he failed to do everything one would have hoped for to avoid this outcome. Ken is a media favorite, and to me it's pretty disingenuous how they've tried to put everything on the AD.

Based on the current environment in CFB, I'd be interested in hearing Navy's expectations and if they are grounded in reality.

There was one devoted to Navy this week, but it's been discussed on the last couple of coachszn shows, too.

Well, for one thing, I think it's fair to assume that Navy wants a full-time head football coach vs. one who also spends a good chunk of his week acting as a stake president for the LDS church, which is more than a ceremonial role. I'm not aware of any FBS coach in recent years who's concurrently held such a significant role outside their university.

Taking on a commitment like that on while your offense - which you micromanage - is trending downward is a perfect recipe for pissed off admirals. He not only refuses to change/update the scheme, he refuses to let anyone else do it either.
