Re: Wichita State
I wonder if SMU brass knew that by firing Jank that our roster would implode.
Sure Jank was not LB but now weΓÇÖre all-time bad.
We went from really good to pretty good to really bad via very intentional coaching moves.

Re: Wichita State
LB spoiled us and it wasn't like most of us SMUers needed to be more spoiled!

Re: Wichita State
LB. Glad we got rid of that guy lmfao. F****** SMU.
He was the brightest spot in SMU major sport athletics in decades. Then some admin took an online health class quiz for Keith Frazier and everyone panicked.
Now weΓÇÖre #183 on kenpom.

Re: Wichita State
Is there a "Larry Brown" type of hire to be had? A coach that has the reputation to attract good to great players, and energize a fan base?
Find someone at least close to that before firing Lanier. And I agree, next year is critical. We have to see some significant improvement, even if we have to turn over the roster through the Portal. He's the coach, he should know which players can and will improve, and which ones have peaked. And find the players that will make the team better.
The team was so painful to watch this year. The only bright spot was the handful of tournament games in Hawaii.

Re: Wichita State
SDSU already asserting themselves as the top PAC12 basketball team. Same for FAU and the AAC.

Re: Wichita State
CUSA, or should I say the future AAC members have really made a statement this year. Charlotte is the CBI Champion, UAB and UNT are headed to Las Vegas with a shot at the NIT title and FAU is advancing to the Final Four making the AAC's expansion/replacement bids look pretty good right now, at last on the hardwood.mtrout wrote:SDSU already asserting themselves as the top PAC12 basketball team. That FAU team is fun to watch. Have to wonder how long they will be able to hold onto their coach.

I'm not so sure about that. There really aren't any great openings right now. He might want to stick around another year and get a much better job.mrydel wrote:I would think either one or two more gamesCharleston Pony wrote:That FAU team is fun to watch. Re: Wichita State
if there is or was our AD and RGT would never approve. They don't want a coach who can win and fill Moody. just a coach who fits their mediocre model or less.crazy horse wrote:Is there a "Larry Brown" type of hire to be had? Greatness is scary and dangerous with a chance of failure. Let's just compete.redpony wrote:if there is or was our AD and RGT would never approve. He does have a relatively young roster if he can get those guys to returnmustangxc wrote:I'm not so sure about that. There really aren't any great openings right now. I am jealous watching FAU, FDU and SDSU playing so well. You donΓÇÖt have to be in a P5 conference to compete in bball. We just havenΓÇÖt gotten it done. ItΓÇÖs early days with this coach but have serious reservations about his ability to take SMU to be a tournament team.

There is a rumor going around that Larranaga may retire after the Final Four. In that case, May would be an attractive option.mustangxc wrote:I'm not so sure about that.
