Re: Fenway Bowl vs. Boston College

I woke up this morning happier about SMU football than anytime since the early 80s. Then this afternoon cold, hard reality set in: We are still a member of the NCAA.
BC has no fans. Even in Boston. If you have to name just 2 ACC teams that have usually quite poor TV drawing power, the 2 are BC and Wake Forest. Even Syracuse is consisntenly a bigger draw for football than Bam, which also is a big dud for basketball TV drawing power.birddogger wrote:Apparently we're not getting a lot of love from the ACC. They designated BC for this bowl but haven't selected any other teams for the other bowls yet. I understand that ND is holding things up, but why did the conference pull the trigger on the Fenway Bowl so early? And what did BC do to make the conference mad and keep them at their equivalent of the Frisco Bowl?
It is not the NCAA. It is two things combined, which also explain why FSU is not in the playoff: 1) the BT and SEC now have near total control over the CFB post-season, and 2) the ACC is so far behind that pair in TV money it has barely more power than the Big 12 losing OuU and Texas. That later is the direct fruit of all that damned ACC over-emphasis on basketball while accepting a football conference that is happy with 1 Top 10 team per year and 2 or 3 other Top 25 teams.Topper wrote:I woke up this morning happier about SMU football than anytime since the early 80s. Yep. Same thing. We were able to use our flights later in the spring, but our hotel was non refundable. That hurt. We’ll be more prepared this time around.EastStang wrote:I had tickets, train ticket, hotel reservations. Then UVa got COVID. I got 1/2 refunds. Not sure I can go this time. If I do, I’ll get refundable everything.
