I think this article is mostly correct: the difficulty for us will be the weather and the crowd. But to fact-check them a bit: the game will be in the daytime, not night. That is the silver lining. Also, apparently they like to let the grass grow long, which slows down the players. That is to PSU's advantage as well.
I think the weather is the biggest factor. Last I saw, it was predicted to be between 10-20 degrees all day with the wind chill. That just saps the energy out of you after a while and the minute you let it get into your head, you’re done. I expect the crowd to be much more tame since sitting in those temps for 3.5 hours will take its toll, (on top of hours of tailgating before the game). If this game was in September/ October with all the students still on campus, it would have been a sight to see.
I’m not sure where the long grass issue comes from. Honestly, I’ve never noticed. Penn St has a great turf management crew but there are limitations given the weather (grass has been pretty much dormant for well over a month now) and the stadium infrastructure. There was some debate years ago of possibly changing to artificial turf, (sacrilege to PSU fans), because of upkeep and limited hours of direct sunlight given location and height of the stands. They eventually decided to stay with grass but there are some challenges there.
