Have you forgotten that GG came to SMU because Mack took his mind away?

Gilbert had more issues than just Mack.

Mack was the reason GG came to Big D.

Go ask Longhorn fans if we should hire Mack Brown.

How did Mack do at Tulane? He was 11-23.

You have to admit we would get an instant hype/media buzz.

At this point the team is in disarray. Mack would restore credibility to a severely wounded program. We don't need him to spend the next 20 years here. We need him to stop the bleeding and then, in a few years, turn it over to an up and comer that likely would not take the job as it currently sits.

I'm for it.

If we can't get CM or one of the 'highly' respected up-and-comers then I would be satisfied with Mack.
Obviously would be a 'splash' hire but it would depend on his staff if he could really be successful here.

I agree. Saying he would be good is not the same as saying he is at the top of the list.

That said-something changed in his ability to analyze and develop recruits. Was it recruiting TOO early. Was it a Culture of Entitlement? I think it might have been Coaching Staff turnover as Coaches left that eventually took the Coaches who were making those recruiting decisions and developing those players. Because they got the players they wanted in those later years-"they just kinda laid there". In any event, Brown could definitely win at SMU and if those top rising Offensive Mastermind Coaches are not interested, Brown would be a solid fall-back

Brown should be in the top 3 candidates. He is in my top 2.

We got the splash hire a few years ago...that had some success, but ended badly. What we need is a face of the program, a recruiter, a man with connections at Texas high schools, and someone that can hire (and develop) assistant coaches that other schools want to snipe. Oh, and a winner...

Sign with incentives in the contract, and with clauses that have teeth. Mack Brown wants back on the sideline as much as we need a winner on the sideline. While that may be a fit, like Stallion I would put him behind a couple of other guys.

peruna- don't disagree with your comments. IMO CM and a lot of others would be a splash hire. tiki was a splash hire that turned coat on us and just took our money. he should have been gone after the asu debacle. hopefully we don't repeat past mistakes.

Perhaps I am wrong, but didn't he win the only National Championship by a Texas School in the last 40+ years?

Yeah, with a freak that comes around once every 80 years.

I think Franchione would be a great hire to come in for a few years, change the culture, build the program back up, stop trying to be a spread team like every team in the country right now, recruit guys into his system, which is what got baylor to where they are now and why Texas State is having success and then hand it off to the hot up and coming coordinator. He has connections to all the HS coaches in Texas, and the Juco's, has ties to the metroplex from his time at our neighbors, and knows how to turn around programs. After watching Texas State beat Tulsa the other night, I'm glad that they were not on our non conference like previous rumors said they would be.

He recruited David Mayo, Mike Orakpo, Tyler Jones, and Robert lowe and Craig Mager, all 4 of those guys would start for us today

Fran would come with a cheaper price tag too, allowing to get better assistant staff pool. We wanted him in 2011, and 2007 and all he has done since is bring Texas State only being known as from a movie into the FBS world and getting TXST into being the fastest bowl eligible team in history of CFB. I don't think you can go wrong with this hire.

Because he got fired from A&M 7 years ago because they were pissed Texas was winning the NC and they thought they were on their level and they weren't at the time and never had been up until Johnny Manziel and Mike Evans came along.
