I'll assume it isn't true because it isn't updated on here yet, but I saw on Chris Johnson's(Titans runningback and close friend of Turner's) Twitter page that Turner committed to NMSU today. See below.

I'm really hoping this is not true. It would seem very out of left field to me given what we have heard so far. Nothing has been posted yet on Rivals regarding this, so this is all I have heard.

In Dark Horse's zeal to beat the recruiting service to a potential signee he went public with this info and it should have never gone public until he signed. When the news went public President Turner came under pressure to not accept the young man by some because of his past. This delayed the process and visit, As well as making the young man feel like he was not wanted at SMU due to his past. We lost this because of that recruit plain and simple. I hope we pm PonyPride in the future with so called breaking news so that he may check his sources to see if it is a sensitive situation. Because this one should have never gone public until the signing.

Sounds like we need to wait until the facts come out. Apparently Turner changed his mind suddenly for some reason. Really bizarre story so far.

Obviously the deal offered by SMU changed again as the guy signed quickly with new mexico state.

wow what a crock of [deleted]. we really dropped the ball on this one. i'm sure everyone's going to do a 180 and say, oh yea, the kid had character flaws, we didn't want him etc. that is BS. this guy would have been huge for us. how disappointing.

i wonder what happened yesterday evening. there's definitely something that we haven't heard yet. something came up that suddenly changed his mind.

I think if you take what StangEsq said, and change the Turner from Kenny to R. Gerald, maybe you're onto something

yea because all the best players in college football are really stand up guys. let me tell you how great all the UT, alabama, florida players are. Give me a break. These players get arrested for DWI, shoplifting, breaking into people's houses, assault etc. WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING FOR THEIR SCHOOLS.

this guy made a big mistake when he was 16. it was a huge mistake that can't be overlooked, but at the same time, he had done nothing to indicate it was a pattern of criminal behavior. he had done everything the right way to try to move past this mistake he made when he was 16.

he was incredible talent that we really could have used. let's stop pretending all these guys are squeaky clean. we had a player that was on our roster LAST YEAR get accused of raping someone. it is a joke that people think taking someone with an isolated criminal incident 7 years before attending SMU is going to really negatively affect our school.

You don't know what the hell you are talking about. Why don't you list all the guys who have spent 5 years in prison for shooting 2 people BEFORE they were admitted to a major university

my point wasn't that there is a long list of people who have been admitted to schools with jail history you self righteous basta.rd. i was just trying to say that yes this kid made a big mistake that can't be overlooked, but let's not pretend like there aren't any players with questionable criminal records who are playing RIGHT NOW. Yes I know they didn't have a record before they were admitted, but does that make it right? NO. The guy raping someone while he is in school is a THOUSAND times more of an issue than a guy who has a single criminal incident 7 years before he enrolled.
