I thought the score would be as bad as the last time we played Tech in Lubbock or aTm in College Station. As the season progresses, it will be apparent that Tech is a BCS bowl team this year. True, our offense didn't score, but they will look better in the games to come. We will hardly ever be a 28 point per game team under PB. then again R.C. Slocum at aTm wasn't either. Yet there are Aggies who would settle for a plodding team that wins every year these dasy. I just want a 7-5 or better season no matter how little offense we have.
JasonB is correct-we match up great with NTSU-they are limited in their throwing game which will protect our young DBs and our strength is in run defense which is how NTSU attempts to move the ball.
these guys will be much more competitive the next 11 games. This was a good measuring stick game, though...and it just shows SMU isn't ready to compete with top 25 teams on the road. Glad I didn't bet this one. Those guys in Vegas are good!
I guess Army was celebrating their (conditional) bowl bid. Anyway our schedule has a little more difficult look to it based upon competitive games by UAB, Arkansas St and ECU. Is Navy supposed to be any good. UTEP won on the road too.
Ugh...
The only positives I see for this are some depth at RB and that we held a powerful offense to one score in three of the quarters. The offense is not going to cut it though. We have got to get our TEs involved in the game.
Also, ESPN has some photos up linked from the box score.
Our O-line will open holes the rest of the year, and our D-line will excel the rest of the year. This is an example why we need to recruit top level lineman, and we are getting a few. When the running game gets on track the passing game will open up and then Pony Snob can go away again.
It sounded like the coaching staff didn't want to put Justin in a position to make a mistake and cause his confidence to suffer. But keep in mind Tech's defense has quietly been getting better over the last three years. Raiders were ranked in the 30s last year in total defense, so with a redshirt Fr QB, something like this could happen.
The question is how do we respond in Denton next week. This was one of three signature games that may determine the course of our season. I expect us to play better next week.
