my point wasn't that there is a long list of people who have been admitted to schools with jail history you self righteous basta
.rd. i was just trying to say that yes this kid made a big mistake that can't be overlooked, but let's not pretend like there aren't any players with questionable criminal records who are playing RIGHT NOW. Yes I know they didn't have a record before they were admitted, but does that make it right? NO. The guy raping someone while he is in school is a THOUSAND times more of an issue than a guy who has a single criminal incident 7 years before he enrolled.
at least this whole thing & discussion of was good for a laugh

Another thing that cracks me up-everybody keeps saying that there were no academic issues. Then why did he have to take 20+ hours each semester this year when he has already been on campus two years and he still would have had another full 13 hours to pass over the summer. Sounds like there were some very major academic issues in his transcripts at least if there aren't some explanations. There is at least a lot of smoke-if not fire.

What does that have to do with anything? That makes no sense and if you can't contribute, then don't. But current and future athletes need the Mustang Club to be successful and we are on the right track. There are more issues behind the scenes that we all don't know about and we all knew KT would be a tough sell with his background and the ensuing publicity etc. The fact that Dark Pony, Mr Big stuff, that posted this non-public info on here just shows he was not a fan of SMU as it made it all more complicated.

People keep taking shots at Dark Horse saying he made it more difficult. Again back that crap up with a little substance. Here's the facts-the kid had a GED and transcript from the Florida Department of Corrections not to mention he has been scrambling to pass about 2 years worth of credits in a single year in JUCO. June Jones is not the Director of Admissions. The SMU Administration did not need Dark Horse to tell them WHOA we need to take a closer look. There is a process every recruit-even a June Jones recruit-has to abide by. June Jones doesn't get to sneak kids in the back door when the Director of Admissions is out to lunch. I doubt Dark Horse had any effect whatsoever.

Armen said there were no apparent academic issues. and i promise you he knows a hell of a lot more about the situation than you would ever be able to admit.

Well I promise you I've followed recruiting a lot longer than him and a kid trying to pass 2 years of courses in a single year raises caution flags in the eyes of Admission Directors. Plus he still has to pass something like more than 33+ hours to get in-that is very unusual. Even June Jones had backed off originally because he had 63+ hours to pass in a single year.

Not to Mention that he visited Hawaii, and even they would not give him an offer....
He would have been nice to have, but we will be O.K., just means Padron's Heisman stats should get a bump...

I agree 100%. I really wanted this kid to come play for us, but it didn't work out for obvious reasons. I don't think Dark Horse should have spilled the beans on Turner's recruitment, but it is IDIOTIC to blame him for this. Do you really think President Turner and the administration give 2 sh!ts about what some bozo posts on PonyFans? Not a chance. Kenny Turner is not at SMU for the same reasons that he is not at Hawaii or the other schools that showed interest. That being said, I wish Turner the best of luck and hope he can prove the critics wrong at NMSU.

This just keeps getting better and better.
I wish that Thad Films was making a film noir about a college trying to recruit a athlete with history rather than a documentary about the end of football I at SMU.

in theory you're correct, specifically about the academic concerns. No doubt he wasn't just going to roll through admissions cause jones wanted him, but you're off base about Dark Horse. Heated banter on message boards almost always leads to a brighter spotlight, especially in the case of polarizing stories. Check the heat Tyree Evans generated when he just gave a verbal to Maryland, w/far lesser charges. It hasn't taken on that type of heat here, but it generated a ton of discussion, w/o him even visiting. Imagine if he visited and gave a verbal. Someone would have picked up the story and off it goes like a snowball. As is he didn't effect the outcome, but that's not to say it wouldn't have been a factor the longer it played out.

I am not blaming him for this...He was a factor is all we are saying and if it IS some kind of factor as the adminstration would like to put the slant on the publicity their own particular way to minimize public pereception, then let them do it, not some guy that wants to appear like he is in the SMU mix here on Ponyfans. There are informal and formal rules about this type of information release and DH should honor them like everyone else.
There is obviously more to the story with KT, and quite frankly its not the end of the world as we know it.
