I have no idea, just guessing but when TT beat us in 1985 when we were ranked #2?

just watched a video of Devin Coleman's 7 for 7 from 3 point line-SMU had a guy in his face for the last 5. Unreal

Yep. I believe N. Carolina was #1 and lost earlier that day.
We lost a bunch of games after that Tech loss, but almost pulled off the big upset in Tourney vs Georgetown, that was an intense defensive battle, Kon-tract toe to toe vs Ewing, gave them all they could handle.

Actually I have my facts confused between seasons.
We actually finished 23-10 and lost to Loyola Illinois in second round, we were a 5 seed they were a 4.
Smu had away wins at Kentucky, at Texas, and home wins vs OKie State, #5 N Carolina, #11 Oklahoma, and Arkansas all leading us to the #2 ranking. Beat Louisville at Moody, Lost to N. CAROLINA st late in season at moody, and lost 2nd round of SWC Tourney toArkansas.
Finished 10-6 and fourth in Swc.
We were ranked top 10 from first poll to the 3rd to last poll, before catering to 13, 20 then unranked after losing to 14 Loyola.
Very disappointing season as it tuned out.
