Moody went from a few hundred in attendance to sold out because of Larry Brown. I used to pay much less for my season tickets in section 204 than I what I am now required to pay for the privilege of purchasing those tickets.

Larry deserved whatever he was asking for.

Umm, no. I'm a Larry homer, maybe the best teacher I'll ever have the privy of watching. That said, he wasn't just asleep at the wheel on over half his job description, he was beyond reckless. think about this, when faced w/a second postseason ban for APR, he went over his lead recruiters head, see KT, and took Kapita and Bruno's verbals. That's positively insane, rantings of a lunatic, crazy. Again, love LB, but his handling of Kapita in particular, was off the reservation. Staff was shocked, admin shocked etc.

If This is to be done at SMU, in some sustainable way, we have to dot our I's, cross our Ts. We don't have to be beyond others, but we can't operate like 90s UNLV. There was no future w Larry, ever. This was always about who was next in line and now we get to see. I have my issues w Jank, but the most overrated thing I hear around here is 'there goes recruiting.' What a farce. Every single guy we brought in, was bc someone in the organization had an in. Larry barely even hired his own staff, cause he was so out of touch. You really think, after snacks left, that LB had any idea who KT was? You think he found Duncs or was he handed Duncs, same w the players. He hasn't had to have personal knowledge of the college game or industry yet, and that's on the basketball side and of things. Beyond that, he treated our commitment to charters like his own personal airline, all while creating donor fatigue. Nobody chartered the way LB chartered. Guy would fly anywhere, on no notice, to see kids we had no chance at.

Again, LB is greatness, but open your eyes to a future w/the same culture, no appreciable drop off in recruiting, more youthful exuberance, and actual checks and balances. This was and is our shot at sustainability. Larry just liked to fly too close to the sun, all the time, cause he liked how it felt. Never once cared for us, the program, even Jank. He told Jank 3 years when he took over. Think of the balloon payment Jank was about to get by not being named head man, all while we go on APR probation. You gonna guarantee LB for 5 years, knowing he's going to get fired for APR anyway, all while paying Jank twice as much as he makes now? LB wouldn't bump up Duncs or stout bc he was hiking buddies w Jersey guy, Hobbie. Hobbie has been here since Doh and has 1 skin, Blaise Mbargorba. We have video guys w more skins, even interns at one point.

Sorry, but I want SMU to be good long term and this our chance. LB got us here and we would have still won w him, cause he's that good a teacher. That said, the kids like Jank more. He out coached LB by a ton last season, and his style of play is more conducive to ball and recruiting in '16.

I have a very close contact at SMU at one of the highest administrative positions. This person told me over dinner that LB was risking the overall integrity of the athletic department as stated above. The sentiments this person held were very consistent with Hoopman. I'm gonna miss LB but I always felt he would be gone (one way or another) in a short period.

SMU didn't deserve the greatness of Larry Brown and he never should have been saddled with a "coach in waiting".

Yeah I know, where would we be right now if we didn't have Jankovich waiting in the wings? We would still have LB.

I'm sorry, but trading a coach with championship rings for one that has proven absolutely zero so far fails to excite me or give me confidence for the future.

What everyone is missing is that this opens up one, maybe two spots for kick [deleted] recruiters. We need to dig into Chicago really hard at minimum. Maybe Hoopmax can suggest where else. I think this could be really exciting for our recruiting.

Larry Stepping Down???

Post by mrydel »

I am just at a loss in understanding those preaching doom and gloom. There are only 2 other college teams in history that had LB as a coach and several have seemed to prosper without him. We needed a jump start to get off the level in which we were mired. LB and David Miller did this. Now I see no reason why we cannot continue to succeed. The only reason we might be hurt is if we get an APR ban. And guess who would be at fault for that.

Jank has a roster capable of earning a NCAA bid this year. I just want to see that happen and for him to recruit well enough to replace the seniors (and any others) we might lose after this season with talented enough guys to keep us in postseason play. I'd love to see Jank have a long enough run to be able to hire some former players as assistants, assuming we will eventually have some guys interested in coaching. Would love to see Doh's vision of SMU becoming the "Duke of Dallas" realized. And for those who are convinced this is the beginning of the end, might as well bail out now so we can see if there is anyone waiting in the wings who might want your seats at Moody.

Jank has a roster full of kids that only know winning. That expect to win EVERY game that they play - especially at Home. Just think what could have happened if we had some depth last year?

Well... we do now. Watch out!

Its fine if you don't like or agree with my opinions on this, but don't lump me in with football dad.

I have been a mustang club member and season ticket holder for 20 years and I don't plan to stop. I hope my views on this matter turn out to be dead wrong and you can all pile on and tell me how stupid I was. I hope Coach Jankovich proves to be a late bloomer and turns out to be a great coach.

I will never wish anything but great things for the school I love even when I think they have made a colossal mistake.

Will you still think so if we get banned this year due to APR?
