Honestly, after the admin hired Sonny Dykes, my initial reaction is to shut the whole thing down, and I don't think FCS is a legitimate option at any point. Now, I want us to keep striving to grow in the FBS, which means we need to find someone who is actually desired by other schools. Yeah we will have to deal with coaches leaving 3-4 years but as long as you have a decent AD who's always keeping a short list ready of quality OC and DC, you then can keep building. Sonny Dykes to me was SMU's way of saying we give up and lets put an analyst as coach and keep it low cost to run.

If I didn't have the flu, I would have mustered the 2 hour delay after being there since 4 for boulevard. I already knew how it was going to end and it wasn't worth putting health at risk when you already know. I have no faith in Sonny Dykes (clearly from my posts). I think at best he should be a recruiter but not a head coach at all.

Also, I saw posts that had Sonny and team walking either before or during the band playing Varsity. What a great guy.

Did SMU cut the budget for "the spotter" for the PA Announcer?

Rarely announced the tackler during the entire game

Observation:

SMU's Field-Turf or whatever it is-really held up well during the rain. The biggest affect of the rain was the rain made the ball "heavy" and basically impossible to effectively throw and catch. But I was impressed that kids like Braden West and Kavonte Turpin were able to cut on a wet turf. Wet condition slow the game due to heavy feet but there wasn't much slipping or sliding. Every time the field started drying out in the First and 2nd Half, TCU started playing better

I have to agree. ThereΓÇÖs no more enthusiasm around the program. June and Chad were doing everything they could to get run away from coaching here, Sonny will probably end up the same. Most fans are old. We have created hardly any new student fans in 30 years.

Great point that we have created very few student fans in the past 30 years. Even more evidence is that the current student body has little interest. If it were not for the TCU fans at the game the stadium would have been empty ( I know weather was a factor, but it was the same for the TCU fans who came and stayed ). At some point SMU needs to come to grips with the fact that football is a money pit and that there is no succession generation of students since the Pony Express who really cares. As our academic standards rise it seems like this caliber of student has far different interests than sports and in particular football.

There are plenty of schools nationwide with higher academic achievement among students than SMU that draw plenty of students to the games including UT, Michigan, USC and Notre Dame. The problem is that we don't have a history of winning during the lifetime of these kids.

While there may have been a lot more TCU fans by the 4th quarter, it was not 5 to 1 when the game started. Pretty even, I would say. I was actually kind of shocked how many people stuck out the delay. Because the waiting was not fun. If I hadn't flown out just to see it, I would have gone home. Sitting through the game was miserable. I spent the first quarter with the football parents and they were so excited and enthusiastic at the start. It was awesome to make a couple of first down before West's breakaway run to legitimize the drive. Second quarter, well you could see the writing on the wall in letters a mile high. I'll be honest, I couldn't focus much on the second half. I was wet, tired, and bored. And TCU fans are all either very friendly or totally classless. There is nothing in the middle, it would seem. Also, it would be nice to have a possession light on the scoreboard please thanks.

That's funny, because that's the same thing we say about smu fans every year.

Same can be said of virtually every school in the country; there are good people and there are a-holes. Not sure there is any "in between"

So if the Christians and Methodists are not in the middle, where do the Catholics fall?

Christians and Methodists? Methodists are subset of Christians, same for Catholics. Unless it wasn't meant to be technical. :D

Can't help but ask, Reed. Back in the /70's and '80's when the Frogs were so dismal so long, were you advocating that TCU drop down to FCS and focus on hoops? You better remember that what goes around comes around, and one of these days (maybe decades?) you'll be wondering why the Frogs can't hire a coach as good as Patterson was.
