Why does week 1 appear to come as a surprise to every coaching staff?

Chad has managed his career masterfully and I don't think coaching this year's team to a 5-7 finish after going 7-5 the year before would have been good for his career trajectory.

Baylor was going to double his salary too. Again, it makes no sense to act like he was trying to run away when he was essentially being promoted in the CFB world.

Again...you are missing the point. It's not that he was "running away" but I think he knew timing was right to take the promotion he had been working towards. I doubt he saw another 7 win season this year and it wasn't like another 7-5 season would have helped his career trajectory. The simple FACT of the matter is that his year's schedule is much more difficult than last year's and I don't know how Chad would have felt about possibly following that 7-5 finish with a losing record. Could have taken some of the shine off his star. I've always like the guy and was glad we had him, if only for 3 years. I loved his work at Clemson and was glad he waited on SMU when he had other opportunities to become a HC. I hope he does well at Arkansas and I have never been critical of his decision to leave when he did. My entire point was meant as a compliment to the guy. His timing was good and he's coaching in what is probably the toughest division in college football.

The record may or may not have taken a step back but he wouldn't be getting blown the [deleted] out and held under 40 yards total offense through 3 quarters by UNT like this I can tell you that.

Also, I'm not sure what his feelings on taking a step back matter because at the end of the day he was still offered a far better job opportunity which made the decision to leave a no brainer.

Has there ever been an SMU team that has only managed one first-down?

I ranked the most embarrassing game as this one, then June Jones last and losing to liberty. Losing to NTCC should be a fireable offense.

Hug your wife before you say that. Some things are more important than a winning football team...

It looks like we have 0 players. Cj sanders isn’t taking kicks to the house like in notre dame. He’s fair catching. All our RBs must be hurt. Defense is totally gassed. UNT looks like LSU right now.

That certainly appears to be the case. Let's hope they are much better than we are giving them credit for. This SMU team looks awful and is just painful to watch. Not sure how many SMU fans will stick with this program when we go 0-4 and get blown out week after week.

Just think..

If we can double our offensive production for the first 45 minutes in the 4th quarter....

we still won't have 100 total yards...

It got Phil Bennett fired.
