Would this mean we leave ozonas early? I'm not sure about this move. And what about the meatballs?

Big East is not the way. That conference's AQ status is on shaky ground. By 2012 or 2013, the AQ status could change by the time we get there. Furthermore, I question our athletic department's ability to cover travel costs of all our sports (womens and mens). We are in better shape than most schools financially, but in this economy I have to scratch my head as to how long our AD can foot the bill for east coast travel. Not only would it be expensive to fly the teams, but our fans would not be able to make a lot of the road games to support our beloved Mustangs. So far this year I have been able to travel from Houston to see two out of our three road games (A$M and TCU). For most of us in Texas or a neighboring state the remaining schedule on the road schedule (Tulsa, Southern Miss, and Houston) is reachable by a regional flight or car ride. The Big East schedule would make it more challenging for us to support our Mustangs on the road. Not sure if Big East is the long term solution. C-USA/MWC Football championship gives a lot of schools the ability to be fiscally responsible and improve their programs to shoot for a AQ berth.

As far as fans at away games, we usually have less than 1,000 at our away games. We probably will break even with alumni that live in the north east that could now attend away games that they were not able to in the past.
I agree on the travel expenses but the new income should more than cover that cost.
The CUSA/MWC is looking less likely if Air Force and Boise leave. So I think it is best to get into some AQ conference when you can and be ready to move again when the opportunity arises.
Best deal with the BE would be a Stallion scenario with there being a Northern and Southern division which could get us into an AQ while still limiting the travel. But for now, we need to find someone who is interested in us anywhere.

It depends Myrdel....the Tulane game and the Rice games last year had many more than 1,000 fans and the fan brigade gets bigger as we become more successful. The TAMU game was good and definatly had more than 1,000 fans there as well, but SMU is slowly breaking out of the bubble, but teams from the East like Marshall, ECU just don't command attention for attendance in Dallas as there is no history nor alumni in the area. It will still be more dependent from some kind of regional rivalry's to demand fans.

I understand and agree. I just think right now it is more important to think about getting AQ than about where the games would be played. But I have faith that whatever can be done is being done.

I have come full circle on this...I used to think that joining the BE was attaching our caboose to derailing train, but on second thought.
We need to live for the day, get in an AQ now, win, and worry about tomorrow, cause "tomorrow is another day!"

Agree that as well. AQ is the holy grail, but hopefully we get some regional relevance as well.

I know one thing, the price of my extra blue seat to Mestengo would go up considerably. Highest quality anejo.

If somehow SMU and UH got invited to the Big East I could see UT and the other big 12 schools delivering the death blow to the Big East just to keep from having to compete with THREE new BCS schools in Texas for recruiting.

As long as UH and SMU are sitting in the largest tv markets and recruiting areas, someone can always grab them. The answer is to get them yourself first.

No worries....I have an extra. Free markets will dictate Mustang Bill can be happy with the lower quality.
