and so after letting almost every team from the "ACC - the best conference in the country" into this tournament, only one of their teams advances to the sweet 16, while the Big XII, PAC 12. Big 10 and SEC have 3 teams still alive...oh, and UNC is fortunate they didn't get bumped yesterday. Pretty entertaining year in college basketball where parity is more evident than ever.

The ACC this year may be the most underperforming Conference showing possibly in the history of the NCAA tournament. I always look at the upset records to see which conference are under or overachieving OR overseeded vs. underseeded.

Out of the 9 ACC teams in the tournament, 5 (so far) have been upset and severally of them badly with no upsets of their own:

#11 WF to #11 K State - by 7 (WF was 43 vs. 46 overall)
#9 Miami to #8 Mich St - by 20
#3 Fla St to #11 Xavier - by 25
#2 Duke to #7 So. Car - by 7
#2 Louisville to #7 Michigan - by 4

The other 3 losses were all in #4/#5 or #8/#9 matchups which are usually coin flips, but all got blown out.
#9 VaTech to #8 Wisc - by 10
#5 Norte Dame to #4 WVa - by 12
#5 Va to #4 Fla - by 26

The one team that won NC (#1) had to outscore Ark (#8) 12-0 in the last 3 1/2 minutes or it would have been 9 for 9 with 6 upsets. (Still opportunity in next rounds)

Even applies to NIT as well:

2 out of 3 teams have been upset on home court no less:
#2 Clemson to #7 Oakland - by 7
#1 Syracuse to #5 Ole Miss - by 5

The only overachiever in the bunch is Pastner's Ga Tech team with 2 upset wins so far:
#6 GaTech over #3 Ind - by 12 (at home though)
#6 GaTech over #5 Ole Miss - by 8

That's 7 out of 12 being upset and usually by a bunch with 3 more large losses in coin flip games.

I'm sure all of the talking heads and power rankers will take this in account next year in putting the ACC in their rightful place (right after UNC gets penalized for their 30 year bogus degree program).

I actually like the trend that the NCAA is holding Head Coaches accountable for school violations. Larry Brown, Boeheim and now it looks like Pitino going down.

Michigan plunks one off the front of the rim as time expires to lose by one. Sound familiar?

Unfortunate last possession for WVU, but man that is a fun team to watch! Gotta love their intensity.

Ok, I know I harp on Arkansas always blaming the refs for a loss, but now the Governor and a State Senator have teamed up and introduced a resolution to the congress condemning the poor officiating in the game against UNC.

Jim Nance just said Butler is the only remaining team that has never led. I am trying to figure out how they won the games they have won.
