Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
You guys need to get over yourselves. Think 21st century instead of 20th century. The 6 chosen teams have a real chance of being more relevant in this century than SMU, Rice, TCU, Tech or whomever.
Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
Rice is saying the right things and fully intend to make a significant commitment to athletics. They definitely have the donors. They are remodeling their stadium. They have top tier academics, they are in Houston, they have a long history of playing with the big boys.
I think Rice has the most potential of any of the schools joining and a resurgent Rice is beneficial to SMU. An SMU and Rice pairing would be potentially attractive to either the ACC or PAC12 if the Big12 doesn't want us.
Hopefully, they will follow through. We can certainly help them with lessons learned considering their starting position is just like ours was.
I welcome the Owls!

I too welcome the Owls. Great to be playing them again. If in fact we are still in the conference when the six new schools arrive.

I do not hope that we are still in the conference when they arrive, however we should look at some sort of promotion/relegation format in the new league.
The 6 newcomers should have to play in AAC D2 for awhile with one or 2 "crossover" games with the 8 who are staying. If they prove their worth they can "move up" to the big boy table and play us routinely.
Re: Aresco Says AAC Will Expand
The new AAC is depressing as [deleted], letΓÇÖs be real. But SMU can still remain ranked, still challenge for an expanded playoff spot and still make it into the NCAA tournament. Time to win and shut up. The rest comes with success.

7 of the current members of the American were former members of C-USA including 2 of the 3 that are moving up. FAU and La Tech whipped the socks off of us in recent bowl games as members of C-USA. It's dangerous to think too highly of oneself.

I'm not sure that FAU and LA Tech were mentioned as the problem.
The way the RPIs work, the only way to get an NCAA Tourney bid from this conference will be to win the conference tournament. That assumes that anyone still cares about SMU basketball these days (I do).
