Like Stallion said, Houston or us would be the cheaper commute. Also Houston would probably get dips first. Our only hope is that have already played them and lost at home, so they might want to revenge rematch or they might say its boring to play the same team twice. Or one of the other AAC teams really really wants the Hawaii bowl.
The conference calls this week involving the AAC, bowls and schools will be really interesting. Avoiding rematches and repeat visits always are at the top of the priority in setting the bowl matchups. The bowls want a compelling matchup both for TV and hopefully sell tickets. Beyond that, if the AAC is paying all travel costs, how much sway do the schools have? While UH hasn't been to Hawaii since 2003, I'd imagine they'd also be attractive to Frisco (better record, H2H win and will buy more hotel rooms). So does UH get to choose ahead of SMU?
I've actually seen quite a few bowl projections that have Navy going to Hawaii and Army in FW for the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. If that were to happen then maybe SMU goes to Birmingham and Houston to Frisco.

The problem with that is it leaves an AAC opening in the Military Bowl in Annapolis. Only AAC option left in that scenario is a 6-6 Temple team which played in the game last year.
Stewart Mandel @slmandel Here are my latest Bowl Projections from what I'm being told as of today. ND to Orlando. LSU may be headed back there. FSU playing to get to Shreveport.
Frisco Bowl (Frisco) Dec. 20 American vs. MAC/MWC Projection: SMU vs. Louisiana Tech
I’m hearing SMU is a lock for the Frisco Bowl. The other side is up in the air; it could be a team from Conference USA, the Mid-American, or the Mountain West. I’ll go with the Bulldogs, who got their sixth win Saturday. https://www.thescore.com/ncaaf/news/1429484

That is not true. A lot depends on whether Memphis wins the conference on Saturday, and SMU is certainly not a lock. Nothing going to be decided until ESPN has talked to the teams as the conferences.
If they ask me, I am not going to Frisco (no change of scenery) or Hawaii (8 grandchildren looking for Santa). I want something different. All that said date of the game will play big in me making it also. So I would suggest the committee speak with me first if they want me to attend.
