After going 3-8 last season, ticket sales dropped. Three campus home games have drawn an average of 14,523.

Not flaming UH, but seriously let's think about it. That school has no more business being in a BCS conference than UNT, UTA, San Jac College, Tyler Junior College etc. If you look at most BCS schools they have a dedicated, wild and loyal fan base even in the rough years. They have alumni who seem to give a damn, and they have a community who cares at least somewhat. You cannot struggle in CUSA, draw crowds like 8,000 that they got for the "Bayou Bucket" game and just generally be a commuter school and be even an afterthough for a BCS conference, period. I spent 1 semester and grew up in Denton, Texas. Denton is home to UH's twin, UNT. The only thing is that UNT has an advantage being in a medium sized town of 80,000 people. The market should be able to be penetrated, bt it can't. In my 13 years in Denton, I never heard about anyone going to, talking about or giving a crap in general about UNT, except that it's close to home and mommy and daddy can pay for it. People at NT have little to no feelings for NT athletics, in fact they laugh at them under their breath. On any given day at a place like UH or UNT you will see in a 20-1 ratio Tech, Texas or Aggy gear to UNT stuff. I know because I was one of them. UNT was just a stop for me on my way to a "real" college experience at Tech. I'm not saying that UH and UNT are not good schools, the UH campus and NT campus are both pretty and people get out of those places exactly what they want from them, which is a close education that they can return home to every weekend and not expend any effort on annoying things like spirit, sports etc. That's just the case, though. Most kids who go to UNT care nothing for the "big school" atmosphere. They want what they want (at UNT it's the close proximity to anime outlets and weird bands that crawl through Denton). It's from experience that I know about these type of places. From what I know from being a Dentonite and a former UNT student, the student demographic and the total atmosphere is simply NOTHING like it is even at a place like Baylor.

And NT has more school "spirit" than does UH.

Just my opinion. I also think it's tough for a private school to do the BCS thing as well. You've got Baylor, Vandy, Northwestern etc. The all struggle with support, success etc. Just a fact. As far as TCU goes, the fact that they don't draw well in their best years does not bode well for them either.

Just some thoughts.

It also means an instant shot to the credibility of a league that has been the strongest one in the country before this and last year.

Imagine a cotton bowl or Alamo Bowl, Holiday Bowl etc (not like UH would even go bowling) and the pathetic support they would get. Not a fit.
