if we signed 10 players off the Texas Top 100 we would go 10-1 every year with our schedule and win the CUSA Championship.. Recruiting is relative to your opposition. Even I don't think that is a realistic immediate goal. If we signed about 3-4 off those lists(especially those with a natural affinity for SMU and Dallas like Burley, Cleveland, etc) and throw in a handful of other players in the next rung who were actually highly sought, sprinkle in 4-5 QUALITY JUCOs and a couple of quality Division 1A transfers we could compete with what TCU has done over the last 5 years. And our talent level would be better than every team in the CUSA West at least.

Stallion, I agree with you the outcome that could happen if what you mention takes place...question is, do you think it will happen, or will be allowed to happen?

Still think a winning season w/ a solid bowl game will do more for recruiting than beating one name team or so a year. It takes time, and consistently winning and going to bowl games is the first step...

keep in mind stallion, just because a kid is in the top 100 texas high school kids doesnt mean he will have success in college.....many players that are players in high school do not have the same success in college...the top 100 is just another stat....there are many high school kids that dont make this stat and are great in college football..still think smu needs invest more time and effort in getting kids from other states along with texas.....there are to many colleges in texas to compete with when it comes to recruiting...they simply need to look elswhere...and do what they are paid to do..get the kids!!!!!!

Have we not covered this a million times? Yes, there are diamonds in the rough. There are top recruits that turn out to be busts, and unheard of guys that go pro. But over the long run, the percentages don't lie. the top rated guys have a much higher chance to turn out good than the lesser recruited guys.

Look at recruiting ranking from these sites people love to dismiss. Look at the top 25 recruiting classes over the last few years. Then look at the actual top 25 rankings. Its no coincidence.

The look at where we finish every year in recruiting, and where we finish every year overall. no coincidence.

I swear people don't like recruiting ranking because they don' fit their argument. I'd like to see us land a few of those guys, and see how many people around here dismiss them then. I can picture it now:

"Yeah we signed Matthew Stafford. He's the top QB according to rivals. But those site's don't know anything. I'd rather have the kid from ______ who only has an offer from us. I know he's only 5-5 140, but the kids got heart."

I'm sure it would go just like that.
