Couldn't agree with you more. We all have dreams of bowls, conference championships and winning records. But no player is bigger than the team, or bigger than the university the team represents -- OUR university. Whatever he did, he owes his coaches, his teammates and his fans (and there seem to be many) a major apology. I'm not saying he owes us an explanation, but he definitely needs to pay the price. If that means we lose tomorrow, then we lose, and any player suspended for an act that goes against the team rules is responsible for that loss.Big10Ponyfan wrote:Obviously, it sounds like the coaching staff learned about this on Thursday, probably did some digging on what happened and made the decision.
I'm one for hoping our program reaching new heights, but I cannot tolerate actions by players when they put their agenda ahead of the team. Small or large, Bennett and his staff made a good call.
I'm glad Justin's here. We'll probably have a tough go in El Paso. Maybe he'll learn from this. Or he better learn from this. But that's life, and we're just going to have to deal with it.
Now, the onus is on Willis to rebuild the trust and confidence his teammate have in him. Willis let his program down.
All that said, I'm listening to the game and cheering like hell.
GO SLATER!
Go PONIES!
Because I'm going to trust their judgment on it. They certainly had enough to make this call, and that's good enough for me. I have no sympathy for Justin on this.
When you screw up, you suffer the consequences.
..........I agree and hopefully it is a team issue he will learn from and be a better leader from the mistake. My concern is until we know the facts..... being what our program has gone through over the last 20 plus years........

1. A starting QB transfers because he is frightened of losing his job to a freshman who has never played;
2. Intramural-Gate;
3. Rock & Roll Stardom > Starting QB Stardom
4. ?
the beat goes on. I won't make any assumptions but enough of these complaints about Coaches failing to overlook violations of team rules. If he was suspended Bennett was almost certainly justified in doing so-and I applaud him for doing it. I just hope it wasn't Burgers and Tide because jtstang is going to go NUTS!

I just find it interesting that some would choose to cancel their plans to attend the game because of this. Let me get this straight: do you prefer to be called Fairweather Johnson or Fair Weatherjohnson? I myself cannot attend the game, and have not planned on being there in the first place due to prior obligations. But at a moment when our team (including Coach Bennett) needs to know that we stand behind the decision (made for whatever reason) and will continue to support the program and Slater in particular, is it really prudent to throw our hands up and cancel travel plans? Good to know that even during a good season we can still find ways to give up on ourselves and our players.

I for one am still looking forward to the game and think Slater will do good. I too have the fear that we may be too conservative but hopefully we will still stick with the game plan and attack UTEP's awful secondary. This will open up things for Martin and maybe we can stay with them till the end.
