That's OK. I don't read your posts either (except for this one).

You and yours are always a welcome part of Mustang Nation, stangdad40!
Do I get any credit here? My son and daughter were both athletes at SMU. They're both graduates, working and raising families, and here I am, reading about the Ponies every day.
Dammit, if only athletes' parents cared about SMU, huh?

First, I must applaud the parents of the players in all sports. They show up (when many alums do not). Second, when we remark about the team and its strengths and weaknesses, that's open opinionated discussion and it does not necessarily mean that we don't support the team, it just means that we have concerns about a specific game or play which fans do. Third, we have had 18 years in which we've seen our football program go from #1 in the Country to the worst in the country to somewhere in between. We've been left behind by UT, A&M, Baylor and TT. We've been left behind by BYU, Utah, AFA, Wyoming, TCU, NM, SDS and UNLV. We are tired of losing, yet have been conditioned to expect it. So, if negative waves come out, consider that we've had a long dry spell and will get all positive and warm and fuzzy when we actually believe that the program is really and truly on the upswing. Right now, I think it could go either way and that is why the UAB game is extremely important.
I think the parents and players that are on here do not get near the respect they deserve. They know more about what is going on with SMU football than anyone else. I find it very strange how certain people on this board think they know more than parents and players, they do not. Speaking from experience when I played, we used to go on this board and laugh at some of the ridiculous things that were posted by the "legends" of ponyfans because they were absurd, irrevelant, and wrong. The real inside info comes from the players and parents.

So after about a week we have two whole parents of FORMER Football players(the original premise) plus one parent of a football player who is also an alumnus of the university. Of course, parents of current players follow SMU Football. But are they were concerned with the long term direction of the football program? I think the vast majority will rarely set foot on the campus again.

two parents (I thought it was three, but no matter) and there are currently 119 players on the roster. The undergraduate population of SMU is about 6,500 with a total enrollment of over 11,000. If you were to do a rollcall show of hands for people actively on this board, would you get much more than 185 people (roughly)?

I went to SMU, my wife went there, all three of my kids have gone there, including one who now plays there. We moved to Carrollton last year, but that's plenty close to get to every game - in multiple sports.

by my calculations, about 5% of SMU's students and alumni are contributing to the Mustang Club and not too many more attend our games. My guess is that former players and parents of players represent that group in better numbers than others associated with SMU. So, what's the point of this thread? WE ARE SMU. Be thankful there are enough of us fanatics to keep each other entertained on this site.
