Can someone clarify, I understand that the rule change allows all clubs to bring in one player and name him salary cap exempt...essentially allowing the payment of $51MM for 5 (as Becks actual salary will be from the club).
Question is isn't LA already using that exemption on Donavan?

In DC there has been some interesting cross marketing between the Caps and United. Apparently DC United sent a message to their fans that they could attend a Caps game at a discount price. A large group of Central Americans showed up with drums and horns, and it made things quite entertaining. And they decided hockey was fun to watch and vowed to return. They also figured out that there are more bars close to the Verizon Center than to RFK Stadium.

Each club gets one player exempt from the cap. Previously, each team got a "marquee" player who didn't fully count against the cap. That is where Donovan is. That rule is grandfathered in, so LA gets to keep both players.
