fact remains this was game #4, not game #11. at this point, that is a sign of improvement within the season and provides hope that this team can improve and rip off a win streak. forget about firing the coach for about 10 minutes. That s-hit will take care of itself.

It is unbelievable as to how blind some of these guys are. I guess losing for such an extended period of time dulls the senses.
Famousguy, good to hear there are those out there who can think. I'm often reminded when reading this board of those who say such things as taking red ink out of school systems, so that we don't upset a student that fails. Hell, if they fail, they fail. Tell them to dig a ditch.

I'm plenty fricken awake. Grow up dude. you cant hire a new coach during the season so give it a rest for about 8 weeks why dont ya.
No one said hire a new coach. I simply said i'm tired of hearing the same old whinny [deleted] pep talk talk. We haven't recruited tuff players and we don't practice tuff. If you do the math, it adds up just as you saw it tonight. A TCU Team who is trying to give the game away and we can't take.

Do you need Lasik surgery or are you watching someone elses games? I am one of the most optomistic people around and I have come to terms with the fact that this season will play out just like years past.
A team like SMU can't afford to go in the hole 4 or 5 games to start the season every year and come back from it. It's not going to happen and you are fooling yourself if you think otherwise.
Look at the facts. We are now only 3 losses from having a .500 season at best. We still have to face East Carolina, (an Improving) Houston, Tulsa, Memphis, UCF(almost Beat Texas) and Southern Miss. Every one of those teams will more than likely beat us. Our best chances for wins are against Rice, Tulane and Maybe UTEP(they aren't that impressive). This season is practically over. It's all ticking clocks and stale popcorn from this point.

We can't hire a new coach right now but we can be realistic.

We don't play ECU. We play Memphis, USM, and UCF from the East. UH, Tulsa, Tulane, Rice, and UTEP from the West. None of those are gimme wins, but if we will not face a defense of TCU's caliber for the rest of the season.
I'm no cheerleader but tonite gave ammunition to me that it might be a tad early to jump ship because I still feel SMU has a shot a 6 wins until they lose their next home game. The defense showed 100% improvement and the offense won't be playing any defense in CUSA with the possible exception of Southern Miss with the athletes on defensive that TCU has. Very impressed with TCU's defensive ends especially Ortiz-did Blake play? Jerry Hughes made some plays. Usually Willis toys with DLM but not tonite-he couldn't shake them. BTW all three of those guys were RBs in high school. I wish we had tried to convert McKinney to DE.

yes, blake was in the game for what seemed like 10-15 plays.
Given that Blake is a beast I thought our guys did o.k. vs him. More running in the second qtr was the ticket and Burns is incapable of getting that.
Phil's problem has always been his staff - he is way too loyal. There is a gap in talent between him and his staff IMO - maybe thats payroll related, but our staff does not een look like they eer played - they just look out of it.
Our D is much improved, but I will tell you without a doubt that UNT and Arky state have better offenses then TCU - I thought their qb's looked horrible - both of them. They will drop a couple more games this year.
And just to ad one more area to work on - we are very lucky to have gotten off several of our punts -
Last night was definitely our best game of the season so far. I think that the last 2 games against TCU we've played above ourselves. The players were giving it their all, no question. Now let's see if we can keep it going.
Our biggest issues last night were
1) inability to cope with any sort of Blitz. If they brought more than 4 guys, Willis was running for his life as soon as he got the ball (not to mention the blocked punt)
2) still had plenty of open receivers, luckily their QBs missed most of them
3) still can't pick up 1 yard in critical situations. On the 4th and one we lined up in the shotgun and rand behind the tackle because we have no straight ahead power formation. Early in the first quarter on third and short we ran a pass play over the middle that was completed for negative yards. The route succeeded and moved us backward. That play needs to be pulled from the playbook.
4) finishing drives. We moved the ball well but once we got close to the endzone we didn't have the killer instinct. The TCU defense stepped it up a notch and we didn't match them.
There were definitely bright spots though, including the defense only allowing 7 points and our somewhat consistent offensive production. See what happens when the coach lets Demyron take the ball and run inside? Also notice how for once we were able to take advantage of confusion on the other team.
Hopefully we can continue to build on this, because we will have to beat teams as good as or better than TCU to get to 6-7 wins.
