We would do better with cardboard cutouts playing on the field.

That's just not true. We are doing much better at tackling. We can't get any points off moving the ball because of turnovers and stupid penalties, NOT because of missed tackles.

Discipline. I know of D 1 coaches who do not conclude practice until a finite number of "perfect plays" are executed...no offside, no false start, no hold, 100% execution.
Interceptions: Someone is responsible for teaching the QB to work through his progression, have the mental clock tick, then get rid of it. Someone is responsible for teaching which arm to carry the ball in, when to cover the ball, etc.
