And I am sure that we could count on YOU to come up with the money to buy out his contract- NOT!

Look at the facts.
Everyone says there was no money to buyout Phil's contract but they had over $500,000 to lauch his TV show, put up banners that let people know the times/dates we will lose, and tv airtime to watch SMU Lose.

Yeah right. If they wanted him out bad enough last year there are enough alums with money who care and would have Ponied Up. Orsini will make the correct decision this time around.

There OBVIOUSLY was not enough money available at the time especially with those alums you sight already paying up to buy out Tubbs contract and Bennett coming off a 6-6 season. I also don't think they wanted to come up with the approx. $1.8 MILLION to buy out the remaining 3 years of the extension that Copeland had given him. With a Forbes estimated net worth of $1.5 BILLION, Gerald Ford obviously has the money, but he didn't make it by blowing it on SMU contract buyouts!

That was my point. Copeland gave Bennett contract extensions when we knew Bennett was not the guy. Prolong the pain is all he did.

Let me go back to the point that PB's contract would require a couple of key items to be valid. First of all, both parties must offer material considerations for the contract to be valid - SMU gives money and PB coaches. I am not clear that PB has provided the university or the team with any coaching, particularly after he states that he has forgotten how the game works. This said, we could cut him loose for non-performance and pay him nothing. This would amount to exactly what he has done for SMU over the past way too many years, NOTHING!
