I only wish this thread had not died so easily. I certainly hope Shula has been contacted and Orsini should put on a full court press if Shula shows any interest. Bama is paying him and I think the guy might be a great fit here. Wonder if he could inspire the QB McElroy to transfer back home as part of the deal. With some of the games John Parker Wilson has played, I'm surprised McElroy hasn't been given more of a look.

Come to SMU with Bama subsidizing your pay, spend 4-5 years resurrecting this morbid program...and then bolt if you must. Or stay and become a legend on the Hilltop?

Does Shula fit the mold of a resurrector like a Lou Holtz? Or he is more interested in the here-and-now?

If there is any coach in the USA who truly wants to make a name for himself he could do it at SMU. Former powerhouse football program turned long-time loser restored to glory. Any coach who can do that will become an instant legend, and if he chooses to move on he can probably name his price. If he elects to stay on the Hilltop, he will probably have a job for life.
