oh, I forgot UNC's Butch Davis. They just gave him more $. Could that be why they're contacting donors here for more $?

No one has called me yet...so am not sure how far down they need to go to get the extra money.

Orsini and two other staff members had been given recruiting capabilities by the NCAA. I read the story about that yesterday, and I thought that it was because we wouldn't have a coach for a while. Although, I don't know if seven days would have been that helpful.

Also...my pick isn't fully available until after December 31st.

Thinking of handing Steve-O a crisp benjamin if I see him tonight at Moody.

People - this secret coach thing is a bunch of malarky. Sorry. Be realistic. At best, SMU is narrowing down its list of candidates WHO ARE INTERESTED. At worst, Orsini is continuing to strike out in landing the right coach for the job and he is waiting it out to see who will be the best of the rest after all other vacancies are filled.

Good idea...it would be great to see a line of fans walking up to him to give him an extra donation...

FYI - The Butch Davis "new deal" has no buy-out and he has supposedly not signed it. There is still a chance Davis could bolt but it would probably be for Arkansas. I see no other schools that could land him - possibly LSU.

It could also be an NFL coach who is still currently coaching, Doug Williams, Mike Shula and of course Rick Neuheisel come to mind. That jives with the end of the year comment by Orsini.
Also, it could be an assistant coach still currently coaching. One name I mentioned very early on because the guy would have ties to Turner would be David Cutcliffe, the current OC for Tennessee and former Ole Miss head coach. He would not be a WOW, but a gee not bad.

If Steve-O is in attendance...how about a chant of the coaches that are out there...we could then gauge his response...
We Want Terry!!!
We Want Fran!!!
We Want Johnson!!!
We Want Stoops!!!
We Want O'Leary!!!
Oh yeah...and I forgot...
We Want Stallion!!!!

Dirk Koetter is a name that has been mentioned as well.

If SMU was going to hire an NFL assistant, they would just do it already.

guys/girls-
the smu selection is down to two candidates, i think one has been left off of most conversation on this board. Johnson and O'Leary. OLeary is unhappy with the new AD and wants to leave...obvioulsy both have reasons to keep quiet (Navy plays army this week...C. Florida is up for conference championship). Neither coach wants the distraction.
Expect it to be one of the two.

My hope of a COACH is fading. Maybe we should just go with a player-coach next year. Maybe an O-lineman or something.
