"The 4 way tie you are speaking of...had we beaten TCU 'that' year, we would have had to play SAN JOSE (the night lights went out) at Highlander stadium to see if we would have been the WAC champ..."
That's great except the TCU loss were talking about was in 1997; the San Jose game was in 1999...
...and by the way had we beaten TCU in '99 and gone back to San Jose State and won, we still would not have been bowl eligible... we would have been 6-5 with a win over a Division 1AA school (CSU Northridge). Need 6 Division 1A wins.

Re: POLL: Most dissapointing loss post DP??
NO guy...
First of all, the SJSU Lights out season, we would have been 6-5 with all those wins. If you read my post, I acknowledged Cal State was 1-AA...and also said that we would have had to get a waiver for that season since we would not technically have been bowl eligible. This is the same season that we would have won the WAC by tie-breaker and been the automatic bid for the WAC championship. Remember, we only needed to replay the SJSU game IF we beat TCU which, then with a win over SJSU, would have made us the WAC Champs...
Second of all, the 6-4 SMU team going against the 0-10 froggies, where they beat us with Womack out, we would have been invited to the INDEPENDENCE BOWL in Shreveport against LSU.
That was our bowl tie in, not the three WAC bowl tie-ins that you said we were not eligible for...
"Back then the WAC only had three bowl games =
Champ: Cotton or Holiday (Pac 10 took the other spot)
WAC #2: Insight.com
WAC #3: Las Vegas"
That was my point.

SMU would not have gone to the Independence Bowl with a 50 point win because what some of you are forgetting is that Notre Dame became availiable over the weekend and ended up playing LSU in probably that Bowl's dream matchup.

Point is, they were in line for it.
