I find it very hypocritical for people to belittle Belichick for his actions and praise Knight for his. Somehow video taping vs. physical abuse just do not rank the same with me as it does with some.

Anyway, my statement was meant to be more pro Belichick than anti Knight.

We disagree, and we'll leave it at that. Knight may have been a lot of things, but he wasn't a cheater.

If one choked his wife and threw her chair across the den but all his kids graduated from school, would he be the model citizen and family man?
Knight is a superior coach but the rest of his character doesn't seem very appealing to me. Would I want my daughter to date/marry him? Not no but HELL NO!
Would I be all warm and fuzzy if he choked my son? NO
If I were a player and he choked me would I feel a burst of pride? NO and my fury would be one hard thing to contain.
He coached basketball and had success. After that, he was (and is) a contemptible human. No more, no less.

I don't know if Landon Turner would agree with that assesement or Coach K. And I think we know what an absolutely genuine great person Nolan Richardson was before he got to Arkansas. How many affairs did Nolan have before and during Arkansas. Did Todd Day ever get his degree? Lee Mayberry? Oliver Miller? Were they prepared for after basketball? Think Nolan was really concerned about that?
I think Richardson makes Knight look like a saint. How 'bout Nolan walking off the court in Austin in 1989 or 1990.
We're going to to go round and round on this. And neither will change his position.

Please don't compare Knight to guys like Dean Smith. Smith actually made a positive difference in college basketball. He was one of the first coaches to recruit black players in a major conference, because, as he put it "it was the right thing to do". Whatever your opinion may be of Knight, it is an absolute fact that he is not even in the same league as Dean Smith.

Oh no. You have convinced me that Nolan is just as bad as Knight. Thanks for the enlightenment.

That's your opinion of Dean Smith. And in my opinion both Knight and Smith are in the same league.
Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?Stallion wrote:Great Coach + Mediocre Recruiting= Mediocre College Coach
