Harvard Rejects

Go to an Ivy League school. In less than five minutes of walking around, if one is male, he has to ask the question, is an Ivy League degree worth four years of being surrounded by the ugliest women on the Earth? It took less than five yards of a walk for me to mark Dartmouth off my list.

The degree from Rice or any fine institute may well be worth the price. But an SMU degree holds prestige and one has far better scenery.

That is one of most insanely idiotic thing I've ever heard. I hope you're joking. Harvard isn't for everyone, and I'm not saying everyone who gets in should go. But if you can put Harvard on your resume, you've instantly set yourself up for the rest of your life. Again, before I get flamed, I'm not saying that Harvard automatically creates a successful and smart person. I'm just saying that if you have the chance to go there for either undergrad or grad, you've put yourself in an unbelievably enviable position....Anyone who argues otherwise is just wrong.

do you know anyone who has gone there or goes there now? i do and that's all i hear about the experience, that's what i was talking about not the benefits.

Oh, I know. I just wanted to be clear that I'm not an ivy homer. Just a reasonable and sensible person that is willing to call people out on idiotic comments like the one that was made earlier in the thread.

Yes. I hire and work with people from ivys (including Harvard) and people from non ivys. Obviously being a non-ivy myself, I'm the first to favor people from schools like SMU. They tend to turn out just as good work and are, generally, just as "smart."

However, I do feel the need to call out idiotic statements like the one you made earlier. To say that it is a "terrible" place to get an undergraduate education is just plain stupid.

Not sure if it's changed, but for quite some time Harvard had, by far, the largest suicide percentage of any college in the U.S. Not really worth the prestige if you hang yourself while attempting to attain it.

They also have a considerable number of people who go on to do a lot of low-paying, non-profit work and live long lives.

Education philosophy differs from person to person.

you confused my point once again, i said it was a terrible undergraduate experience but clearly you get a lot of perks from going there and you will learn a lot....this a common problem people have on this board, actually reading posts thoroughly

I thought it was Minnesota, but a quick google shows that MIT surpassed them both.

Off the subject of the conversation, but on topic in regards to the subject of this thread....

It's worth pointing out that a true 'Harvard reject' (well, Harvard transfer) will be starting for LSU this season.

When I was in high school RICE had higher SAT scores than 4 Ivies. At my high school our Val and Sal both went to RICE. A couple others near the top went to Ivie/Stanford type schools.

RICE is an outstanding undergraduate school. No fluffy majors at that place. Mostly Engineering/Science. Very different experience than SMU with its notoriously easy "communications arts" majors that attract large numbers of lazy greeks.

People who go to RICE are academically the cream of the crop. IF they are Harvard rejects it usually has little to do with academics.

Its tough to gain an admission to an "elite" school. Knocking RICE as an IVY reject school is moronic on an SMU board. 90 percent of SMU freshman would have extreme difficulty gaining an admission to RICE.

That being said, I hope we crush em tomorrow night like we used to in the eighties.

Those who diss RICE should stick to football. There is hope that SMU will regain its dominance in football but comparing the two schools academically is obnoxious drivel especially when one is so superior to the other.

Sorry for the rant. Just a reality check for some of the resident idiots on this board.

I didnt come to sSMU for the sports, the $40,000+ tuition, the close to home location, or the education. I CAME FOR THE WOMEN!
