PonyPride carried that radio show last fall. He knows the team inside and out and covers the team better than anyone. He gets my vote.

Well, I guess Greggo's off the short list...

I honestly didn't know that Swann was leaving the booth. What's the backstory here?

anyone?

I'd vote for Pony Pride or Dan Freiberger.

I like both of those votes — Freiburger was a decent analyst back in the day with Walter Lynn. Doesn't he live back in the Midwest now?

But I vote for PP, too.

Rich Phillips - play-by-play
Pony Pride - analysis
Dale Hansen - good for stupid comments every now and then. If Tony Kornheiser can do Monday Night Football for a couple of years, Dale Hansen can do SMU Radio.

Do you really want to hear him talking about the DP during every broadcast? Because you know he would. It's the only 'scoop' he's ever had at Ch. 8.

Kornheiser is brilliant, although his voice didn't always translate on MNF. Hansen, on the other hand, wouldn't do his homework, wouldn't show up on time and would only badmouth everything about the university. Hell no.

I agree on your first two ideas though.

You see, the thing is, the production team would have his microphone muted at almost all times, and on the off chance that he began to say something more complimentary of the university, they could unmute him.

The idea is to get Hansen to realize that SMU is no longer cheating, and has moved on from the days of the DP. The only way to do that is to get him to a game, and the only way he's going to come to a game is if he's got the opportunity to open his trap.

TK is a GREAT sportswriter and a wonderful "talking head" because he researches everything so thoroughly. However, he just didn't add any real insight to the MNF broadcasts.

Again, have Hansen on mute unless he actually begins to say something semi-intelligent. Methinks that would be about the 3rd-4th game of the season.

Methinks that would be never.
He wouldn't make an effort, and he'd be wrong even if he did try.

I think Sanders did TV for the SMU-Tulane game a couple years back. If I remember well, he was solid. Anyone else remember that game?
Apparently not.

I vote for PonyPride, too.
