Stallion you are wrong, Birdwell was here at SMU when bennett arrived and so was Harris. And by the way any scool that is Div I should be considered legit since we are at 114. A few others-Jay Taylor La Tech,Don Stansbury Baylor,Rico Harris Baylor,Melvin Williams OSU,Richard Bartel La Tech Purdue,Chris MacMurtray Wisconsin Marshall,Both DD's Baylor and OSU and don't know for sure but what about Hargis, Hampton,Vic,and Garrett.

Third, I bet if you really studied Northern Illinois you would find so many non-qualifiers, partial qualifiers and JUCO transfers, just like you would at Marshall, that it would make your head spin.
Ok, so clarify for me, Stallion what you want out of this program. Do you want to recruit like Marshall and Northern Illinois with partials, JUCO's etc? Or are you looking to find the Lance McIlhenny, Eric Dickerson, Craig James mold that picks SMU over A&M, OU, and UT. Truth be known, you ain't getting either. Recruit as hard as you can, and be a good coach and coach even better.
TCU has had success because of unheralded recruits that fit their scheme beautifully come in and contribute after being redshirted and endure a top notch strength program, all the while being coached really well. It shouldn't be a suprise at the formula, but for some reason, on the Hilltop, that formula is written in Japanese and Mr. Miagi is unavailable.

I rest my case! Your posts proves without a doubt that SMU's senior and junior classes were not competitive if that's all you can come up with. Warrie Birdwell's class has graduated -sorry! try counting to 4.

More specifics, please, which years precisely are we talking about? Wasnt Chris Cunningham in the same class as Sterling, and didnt he have an offer from Texas A&M? Didnt DD Lee have an offer from Baylor? Didnt Richard Bartel have a scholarship offer from Purdue? Didnt Daniel Francis change his commitment from TCU?

CPC is still laughing over the donkey punch joke.

I'm not going to spend my whole day trying to explain Texas recruiting over the last 5 years to someone as unknowledgeable as you. TCU has unhearlded players? They have beat SMU's [deleted] and just about every single opponent on their schedule in recruiting for years. Until you acknowledge that I'll assume you don't know what you are talking about so that explaining how schools like Fresno St, Marshall Hawaii and Kansas St cut corners to surprise to recruiting rankings would probably make your head spin. I've spent about 5 years on this topic so pull up a chair and pay attention.

My understanding is that Comet had an offer from A&M, but for whatever reason they reneged on it (started jerking him around or something along those lines), which is why Comet came to Dallas (A&M's loss by the way). I head about that a long time ago, so you'd need to ask Comet or Joyous to get the straight scoop.

McAndless,
Cardwell, Murphy and Birdwell have ZERO bearing on the current team, which is the problem we're discussing. If you follow that line of logic, we should be a very good team because we did, after all, once recruit the great Eric Dickerson.

But back to my previous post, I think the tendancy is to point to the exception that proves the rule (e.g. Comet sort of had an offer from A&M, etc.). It shouldn't be that hard to point out a few dozen guys that had a couple (or more) offers from the schools we want to be competitive with. But it is.

Stallion, sorry I haven't spent five years sitting in front of a computer reading your spineless banterings of SMU's recent recruiting tactics. I also apologize for not studying the trends in recruiting over the past few years. Seriously, I am very sorry for having something far more important to do, like making a living, finishing school, interacting with others of the opposite sex, etc. So, no thanks, I don't believe I will pull up a chair and pay attention to your posts because, besides having more to do with my life, I don't get off analyzing recruiting techniques of partial qualifiers and JUCOs and the correlation between top 25 schools, second tier schools and SMU.

Well, Mr. Punch, you stated earlier to Sam that Sterling Harris was the only player with legit Division 1 offers. I usually don't follow any logic, but I think you should correct your mistake, because Sterling was in that class of 99. And in effect, he did open up some gaping holes for Dickerson and James.

Thanks CPC. I'll get you for that (think of me when your burgers keep showing up rare!!).

Anyway, we've already discussed Comet.

I'll have to look into DD (And even if so, that's one offer from Baylor - A Big XII team, but not exactly a top team. So let's keep the exception that proves the rule in perspective).

Bartel didn't have any other D1A offers. Interest yes, offers no. That according to his high school coach who is now at Weatherford.

Daniel Francis also has ZERO bearing on this team's current woes (other than taking into consideration his absense) and this discussion.

I don't know Stallion. Never met the man to my knowledge. He and I don't agree about a lot of stuff.

BUT,
If you want recruiting info, doesn't it make sense to go to the guy who spends all his time in front of the computer, abstains from food, sex, social life, etc. to know his topic?

Guys you are splitting hairs here.

Whether it is 2 players, 5 or 1…does that really matter in the grander scheme of things?

Funny, but all the players mentioned happen to be some of our very best players, so there is clearly a correlation between legitimate offers and performance and it is also painfully obvious that we were not getting enough of them.

TTech and OSU have a roster full of this caliber of player, ergo they rip our butts.

One final note on TCU. I personally don’t believe they are top 20 material. Place them in the Big XII and have them play UT, TT, A$M, OU, OSU, K-State and Nebraska and they are lucky to go 2-5, most likely go 1-6 or 0-7.

Preach it, son. TCU's sagarin is currently something like 53. I think that's more accurate.

So to clarify, you're all saying Kincade will have a big day Saturday because San Jose State has difficulty stopping the run, right?
