How about the entire 1996 season.
Start off 2-0 after beating Tulsa at home and dominating Arkansas in Fayetteville. We then go on to lose 5 in a row, including a 2 point loss at Navy and a 1 point loss at home vs. Missouri. We win 3 of the last 4, inlcuding a 27-24 win over TCU in the last game of the season to finish 5-6.

This is probably the best game to remind people of since it represents an even greater fall than what we could have this season, but they are eerily close.....In 1996 we won our first two, including killing Arkansas in Fayetteville AND we actually got some AP top 25 votes..(3 I believe)....We were feeling good about ourselves, thinking we were "back from the death penalty"..we then go on to lay 5 eggs in a row, miss bowl eligibilty AND endure 12 more years of losing....
It can all turn bad in one blink of an eye...

You guys have named several already, here is another. Last year, first game, SMU goes up 13-0 on Rice in the first quarter and looked great. My college roommate called from Chicago where he was watching the game excited as I was, that just maybe June Jones would pull off another miracle. We had both grown up watching SMU and had never seen SMU lose to TCU and rarely to Rice until after we graduated.
By the end of the half, Rice was 28-13 and ended up 56-27. All hope for a quick turnaround or even a "corner turning season" was dashed.

I remember walking out of Razorback Stadium that day thinking that we were back and there was no way that it would be anything less than a 7 win season.
It didn't take long for that feeling to change

the Ole Miss loss was borderline tragic. It was actually somewhat similar to the UAB game last saturday, the only exception is that somehow UAB did not convert the 2 pointer. If that went to OT, UAB would have broken our hearts its pretty likely given momentum.
The Albert Connell game was just as tragic. Didn't they also call a phantom pass interference call on us on a critical play in that drive too?
In terms of games we somehow stole. of course the UAB game from a few years ago. Also an Arkansas game circa 1995 at the cotton bowl. Arkansas fumbled as they were going in for the winning score i think.

That was the game I almost ceased to exist. I was taunting the Arkansas players so much for losing to SMU 2 players started to climb up to get me until a coach got them back. Thatsgreatraplh decided I was too drunk to fend for myself and took me away

Yes, there was a phantom pass interference call a play or two before the Alber Connell catch. Aggy got some good Kyle Field home cookin' from the officials that day.

Yeah, I saw that 2 point Navy loss. A late field goal after we had beat them up and down the field all night.

I really think we are capable of beating WSU. Do we, hopefully.
The next five games after WSU will be very difficult. TCU,ECU,Navy,UH and Tulsa. I think we can beat ECU, the rest I do not see it happening. Ending season at home with Rice, UTEP,@Marshall and back home with Tulane. I say we go 3-1. If we beat WSU, I could see a 7-5 season a possibility.
But who knows what happens between now and the end of season. I could also see us ending, 4-8.
PONY UP!!
WHIP WAZZOU!!!!!

She must have the wrong number. I noticed there is a pony94 here so she might be calling him instead

NC State (we're not talking about Alabama, OU, UT, or even Miami) and McCown has to run for his life for the entire game. After about 10 sacks and 5 picks, he gets relieved by Page. The other one was Bennett's first game. A new coach, hope for a better season. Navy kills us at home and the field catches on fire.
Without looking, wasn't Navy winless the prior season or close to it? We were favored as I recall.

At this point I am willing to go with 5-7 assuming we beat WSt
