What about wearing SMU colors and losing the wreath aroung your neck? JJ, you're in Dallas, not Hawaii. I know you're publicizing the Hawaii Bowl, but show a teeny tiny bit of support for the school at which you're the head football coach.

I also wish our fans would wear the opposite color of our opponents color, we had
way too many Mustangs wearing navy blue last night and navy blue isnt our color
anyway it is royal blue, we should have had on red last night, but wear blue for the cougs.

I agree with you. I'm not digging the Hawaii outfits.

Some will say this is reading too much into a simple string of flowers - but I also think that game day attire is something the players indirectly pick up on. It does not say "I am committed to this place and to you come hell or high water" - it sort of says - "I would still rather be in hawaii but they are paying me a bunch of dough so I will stick it out for three more yrs and then pick a favored asst coach to take over". Texans are proud. We want you to like being here - or at least be smart enough to pretend.
If he has to do the (already done) Johnny Cash thing - he can at least get a black shirt with SMU on it. The checks proabably have SMU on them afterall.

I wish he would. SMU needs people like that like I need a hole in my head. What assinine drivel to post the day after such a great game. Great event, great atmosphere (which apparently he is determined to undermine), and although the loss was hard to take, the team's play so far exceeded my expectations that I am giving serious consideration to driving to Houston next week to show my support.

SMU's RBs had just about as good a nite as you will ever see in the Run and Shoot. He definitely missed some passes but we had zero turnovers right. Navy executed very well in the 2nd Half. I thought SMU Coaches did a great job in the game plan to stop the flexbone. Navy just exected better. It is disappointing that we are not hitting on offense like we could. Lots of room for improvement but we played a quality team to the wire. More impressed by that than all other victories this year. ECU was a good win-but hey we really didn't play that well-about 5 unbelievable plays turned that game on a dime. Tonite SMU played toe to toe with a quality team.
I could not agree more. This was the most rounded performance, and, with a couple of made throws, one throw not thrown, and one less pass interference penalty when the ball was miles away, we could have taken that Navy team, which is a solid team, and pounded them.

After our performance againest Navy the last few year their was no place to go but up. I am damn tired of moral victories. JJ should be adjusting his games plans to use the talent he has not make the talant adjust completely to his system. I hope he succeds but my optimism for his sucess has cooled after the WSU and Navy losses.

You have a point, but a large contingent of folks came in from Hawaii to see Coach Jones (and his former Hawaii assistants) and Coach Niumatalolo (who also was wearing a lei ... not a wreath). Not sure I want to see a cowboy hat on his head, either, but as long as this was a one-time thing for the Hawaiian visitors (many of whom I gather are close with Coach and his family), I was OK with it.

I think I'll change my avatar until JJ sports a more indigenous look.

I believe Reinbold had on a lei as well. At least with both Cavan and Bennett and their respective coaching staffs, they always had on game day attire in support of SMU.

I came away from this game feeling better about where this program is going than what I saw in September. This isn't about moral victories. This is about seeing the program improve week by week.
I'm seeing it. I think you're going to see the team play better in November. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this crew found a way to split Houston/Tulsa.
I said 4-8 this year with that 4-8 really showing that this program is coming. At 3-3 with a solid effort against Navy, I would say they are a little ahead of my expectations.
All they have to do is just keep working and believing in their system and see what happens.
