Bottom line is that with BLM, I watch the game hoping he doesn't do something bad that will cause us to lose. I never once had that feeling today with Padron.

Wonderful pocket pressence and awareness. A lot of that is because he came up through a passing system, where BLM did not. Don't see frosh QBs do the scramble, wait for a player to bite, and throw very often.

More receivers were hit in stride today, allowing them to use their athleticism for YAC, than we have seen all year. And that is why I would put his accuracy above BLM.

The writing has been on the wall for a while... sharing first team reps, and the comments that he was going to be put in the Houston game at some point anyway... JJ isn't a fool, he was just waiting until the kid was ready before making a switch.

It's like comparing Jeff Garcia to Tom Brady.

Now would we have won or lost with another QB I can't answer. But our D did step up and was the key to this win.

The D has played well for the most part all year. In fact, the defense has been key in every win. My concerns for the D are being proven wrong.

That has been the most shocking thing this year. I am not surprised by the record, but you gotta be surprised that our D has carried this team. Zero to Hero in one season.

BLM has probably just been Wally Pipped, we can all rejoice. Hail Kyle Padron.

What is Wally Pipped and where did the saying come from, if you don't mind me asking?

Wally Pipp was the starter at first base for the Yankees before losing his job due to an ailment and being replaced by Lou Gehrig who didn't relinquish his hold on the spot for 2,130 games. Being Wally Pipped has become a colloquialism in sports for losing one's job permanently due to injury.

That is a pretty good explanation. Thanks. I get it now. i felt out of the loop.

I agree with Kent_Dorfman and PonyFan84 that Padron is better.....Especially in his first start. I remember BLM's first game last year. It was a shocker. BLM throws way too many INT's to defensive lineman which is ridiculously unacceptable. Unless Padron turns into an interception machine like BLM has been in the past keep the gunslinger on the pine

Taller, most certainly. If what they say is true about people's wingspan approximately equaling their height, Padron would have a release that's 4.5" higher than BLM -- not including BLM's propensity to sidearm. I'm not sure he's stronger though. I might call that one a draw.

kent dorfman wrote:he's more athletic,

No question about it. Padron can scoot, dodge, throw on the run. That toss to Beasley when Padron got flushed out of the pocket was a ting of beauty. That play would've gone for -5 with BLM behind center.

kent dorfman wrote:he has a better arm,

Untrue. BLM has a cannon. He can throw it 60 yards on a rope. that being said, Padron CLEARLY has better aim and touch on the ball. Was is Robinson or Wilkerson who had that real nice sideline grab in the first qtr.? Whichever, Padron absolutely threaded the needle and dropped a beauty over the receiver's shoulder.

kent dorfman wrote:he has better pocket awareness...

Not sure about this, but Padron certainly had more tools to evade a rush and make something out of nothing.

kent dorfman wrote:think about how much better he'll be once he knows the offense better and adds a bit to his frame.

The potential does make one a bit giddy. According to JJ, the standard package has been greatly simplified for Padron as it was for BLM last year. With more reps, we could see improvement this year. But yeah, I feel much better about the Mustangs immediate future this morning than I did yesterday morning.

Couldn't agree more JasonB. In fact, isn't this one of the core tenets of this offense? Spread the ball around, get your playmakers into space and let them run wild for YAC? Padron's toss that hit Wilkerson running full throttle... The toss to Beasley... The toss to McNeal for 6.

Padron is taller, but he also releases the ball pretty high, whereas Mitchell sometimes goes almost sidearm. Before the season is over, we're going to need both of them.

didn't see the whole game but looked like Padron's arm didn't crap out like BLMs always seems to in the 2nd half. That's been a problem all year for us

not to mention that was Padron's FIRST START. BLM has had a year and a half and the fact that it's debatable which one is better, makes me think you have to go with Padron to see how much his game improves with experience
