Watch yourself, 86. It's hard to imagine you would mention a recruit on the RECRUITING board, when a couple of worked-up Perunaphiles would prefer attack the moderators of the only site that matters.
Of course, you're also absolutely right. Blackwell sounds like one hell of a player.
All 3 sites are good sites and they all matter. Everything will be okay. Steve, Armen, and
josh are all good people. Now with that said, we need to get Blackwell.

LOL at this being the only SMU site that matters. Maybe, if you are an old white guy. Recruits check the services. If you don't see or understand that, you don't add to the discussion

If you have a beef with this site, PM the moderators directly. No need to hash out dirty laundry in a public thread. Also, when you see activity that you think shouldn't be on here, alert the moderators directly about it.

All three sites are good to have. I check all of them daily and they each serve a purpose. Rivals and Scout are usually going to get the first time observer because those are names that most sports minded people have heard of and will be the first place they look when they want to find info about a team. Ponydoh is right when he says recruits will look at those sites first. PF's is for the ardent fans and gives us an outlet, without charge, to find out the day to day goings on of SMU. It does a fantastic job and is the first one I look at every day. Then I go to Rivals and Scout to see if there is any additional info that PF's doesn't have. We need them all.

What does race have to do with this?

that's the demographic here, old white guys that don't really grasp recruiting. Nothing wrong w/that, serves it's purpose, but recruits are attracted to the services. If you are a young recruit, black or white, wanting to see what SMU says about you, you head to rivals.
Anyway, enough on this matter. Ponyfans is great as a message board platform, we just need the services too

I agree with your position - that we need the services too - I just am not sure what race has to do with your choice of SMU sites. Most of the people here are white because SMU's student body is mostly white. If SMU had Hawaii's student body, most of the people here would be "old Asian guys."
Fact is, this is nothing more than a fan board, where as the services are, well, the services. Each serves its purpose.
Let this world move past the era in which many saw it as a world of black and white (and other races as well) into a world not defined in terms of race.

I hate Premium Board bigots. Have to admit I enjoyed the slapdown as well.

I am an old white guy. I understand recruiting. I am not stupid. I am a college graduate. I was recruited in college. I take great offense to ponydoh's statement. He may be the world leader in how basketball recruiting works but one simple, ignorant statement like he made shows me his true worth as a human being. I do not expect excuses or demographics, I expect an apology.

lol @ you guys. I'm sure the only guy who truly grasps grassroots recruiting, mostly as it pertains to hoops and urban markets, is racist. The guy who has made his career and living in and around the sport, who markets athletes, ran his own program, had apparel deals etc. There is nothing wrong w/saying this is a lily white message board and that SMU is a lily white school. Those are just the facts. The only reason race was brought up was b/c someone said this was the only board that mattered. I responded that is true, if you're old, white & male. Young recruits, regardless of race, check rivals and scout. Stop being so sensitive. Being overly pc smacks of racism more then harsh truths.

Not only do I disagree with that, I would go so far as to say that at least half the posters on this board know more about recruiting than most recruits and/or their parents because in most cases, their junior or senior year is the first time they've ever been exposed to recruiting whereas many of the usual posters on the board are ex-athletes and/or coaches who have not only been through the process themselves, but have watched other players go through the process for years.
I think the recruiting services are necessary and valuable to an extent, but it has more to do with promoting your class to other recruits and getting alumni fired up about the future. Its just marketing. Where we've been hurt in the past by not having a Scout or Rivals site is that our recruits didn't get the same amount of publicity as the recruits from other schools. It's not just better athletes that are driving our average # of stars up. It's also having journalists that cover them and post their opinions about an athlete. The recruiting services are very good at generating hype.

So not only are you a racist but you actually are saying I do not know anything. I am far from sensitive, but you are far from not being a racist. Knowing something about recruiting puts you nowhere on the map for being a decent human being. The two are totally unrelated. You may make your living around the sport, but I make my living in providing equal opportunities for people of all backgrounds, and races. My biggest problem is dealing with those that think they are better than someone else for any reason. I really do feel sorry for you and your prejudices and hope that some day you recognize your bigotry and correct it.

Your 2nd paragraph is great and very true.
Your first paragraph has never met a hoops recruiting discussion on this board. They are ridiculous and have nothing to do w/our problems

Who thinks they are better then anyone again? I don't remember saying I was better then anyone, just that very few have a true grasp of recruiting, specifically basketball recruiting which is very different then football. If they did understand these things, they would be against leaking info from the services on a free board.
Are you saying this isn't a lily white board and school? Did I lie about that? Is that offensive in some way? What if I said SMU has tons of rich blond girls? Or, maybe you'll just diatribe about me being a bad human being, and not say anything substantive.
