Who knows maybe UCLA experience humbled him to some degree? But I wouldn't take him unless there was clear and unmistakable evidence that this kid has made a u-turn in his attitude. He could start by enrolling in community college this summer and showing everyone that his school work is something of value to him. But the faculty at SMU is not going to give any academic waivers to a malcontent who slacked off at UCLA and didn't make grades there unless there is clear evidence that he's changed.

get over the academic waiver stuff. Take a close look at who SMU is recruiting in Football and Basketball-the evidence is in based on 6 recruiting seasons-3 in Football and 3 in Basketball that we are letting in just about anyone who meets NCAA minimum qualification standards. It gets more and more obvious with every football and basketball recruiting season. The scientiific consensus is that the world is no longer flat.

In the thread ---
I don't see Matt Dougherty (sp) being at SMU after next season. Additionally, his HS coach, James Mays and others, are on record as saying that they will
not send any kids to the hilltop
after they fired former Kimball coach Jimmy Tubbs after 2 seasons. (with a much better record than Dougherty and less resources) Looks like JJ's is going to have to create an opening!

its been addressed round and round...but is that the same "James Mays and others" that lobbied for the hire of Tubbs so that they 'would' send kids to the Hilltop? How'd that pan out? Tubbs best recruits were from where, San Antonio (Ofoegbu), Oregon (Morriss), and Senegal (Bamba)?

furthermore...while a high school basketball coach can still throw a wrench into our recruiting, he really has far less influence than the AAU or "Club" coaches do.
