Thanks to Mustangaddict for being such a loyal fan!

We just need to improve, that is the only point. I can't imagine that Rice, Tulane, or Tulsa would have done a whole lot better. If fans want to get there, they'll find a way. I know it's not easy. I haven't been the best fan over the years in terms of away games either. Let's keep winning - I really enjoy going to away games. - Houston, Tulsa, A&M should all be doable for most next year.

I make it to at least 6 away games a year. Just so happens they are all in Dallas. :D

Southern Miss: fly into GPT, stay at the Beau Rivage, do the casino thing, drive up to the game. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'll enjoy that a lot more than I will Kyle Field.

Everyone bring sun screen to aTm next year.

I thought all SMU grads immediately became CEOs upon graduation at which point they hired TCU, Tech and Baylor fans to work for them??? Should have plenty of coin for a quick trip to Orlando!

You are a great fan and don't have to explain yourself. Understandably the quick turnaround was tough for most people. I don't think anyone is comparing SMU to UCF, that would be stupid. It was just sad for a Championship game turnout.

You mentioned quick turn around which I believe is the major issue against a national championship playoff in football. Even the big schools with the huge alumni groups would have trouble traveling if their team traveled for 3 weeks in a row. Imagine finding and booking hotel and plane reservations and getting time off from work based on a game by game situation where you would not know if or where you may be traveling.

That's definitely one of the problems faced by the NCAA bball tournament

This is one of the problems with the Championship game being played at one of the team's home field...particularly in a conference like C-USA that is spread out across the country. I know this is hypothetical, but how many UCF fans do you think would have made it to Dallas if the game had been played in Ford?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Really...from a commuter school located in Florida? I don't think we even get that many visitors from Houston when they play up here and they are only 250 miles away and they have grads living in the DFW area. But thanks for playing. :)

how many did they bring when they played at Ford 3-4 yrs ago? There is more interest in their program now and I would expect a pretty good turnout from them for a championship game. At least 2-3k if not more.

mustang addict wrote:We have got to make going to an SMU game a PRIORITY. That's home and AWAY games. I truly believe SMU fans and the casual Dallas fan cares about SMU and wants to see us do great. They watch it on TV, listen on the radio, or just check the scores periodically on the radio, check the news or newspaper. However, if they have anything else to even possibly do they will put going to the game on the "back burner". (Their wife may say we have to go to that wedding or dinner party, or just shop some more, etc.)

I honestly think most of our fans get the schedule and only look at the home line-up not the away games. We have to change this mentality and make SMU a priority. Away games are great. The fans that do go are really into it and as June says there is no feeling like that of winning a road game! Believe it or not, with our team's much improvement the last 2 years our away crowds are much smaller than they were in previous losing seasons (like 1-11 years). We had so many more people those years at East Carolina, UTEP, and Central Florida to name a few. I believe we had at least 3 times more people at those games in the past vs. this season.

I am a positive person. And very positive when it comes to SMU, but I was glad to see this post so I could say how I felt. The SMU crowd for a CHAMPIONSHIP game was very slim in numbers and disappointing. Folks, if we are to improve our conference status (and I hope we will) we have got to support our coaches and players who are trying so hard! They are giving it their best effort and it's time to do OUR part. And that is to show up and have fun. I have been doing it for 38 years (407 straight home and away games). I love every second of it - especially the road games!!! See you at the Bowl game at OUR stadium. When we win our 2nd Bowl game in a row we can be proud of our Mustangs and our future! Lets please make going to the games a PRIORITY.

Sorry for the length of this - but this is something I'm passionate about.

Good post! BEAT ARMY!!!

My wife and I flew in from Louisville. Would have liked to see more Pony Fans there. If we are going to make it to the next level, SMU fans have to step up. At one point in the 4th quarter, with the game relatively close, one of the SMU players looked at our section and exhorted us to stand up and make noise. The outnumbered few of us did what we could, be a few hundred can only yell so loud. I am VERY glad the Band was there. Without them, the team would have received relative silence. I will be coming in for the bowl game. We have got to step it up Mustang Nation. It is important for the kids who are playing.
