Of all the submoronic nonsense our athletics marketing folks keep churning out, this has to take the cake. As someone already pointed out, black is not the color of our armed forces, black is the color of West Point's made-up mascot.
Put a guy in black on a gelding and you have Texas Tech... Just sayin'.
This proud Navy brat and 5-time legacy SMU alumni will be wearing red and blue just like every other true Mustang fan.

Public Relations 101 - if you have news that must be announced, but you want as little publicity as possible - release it at the end of the day Friday afternoon, or, in this case, Friday night. It's too late to make the Saturday papers. You're lucky if reporters work on Saturday and by Monday it's 3-day old news. Bonus points for announcing before a major holiday.
I neither own nor will purchase any SMU black apparel. And don't try to tell me that wearing black supports our military - I can do that just fine on my own. Maybe I'll wear some camo pants.
If you want me in SMU clothes, they will be red or blue. If you insist on black, I'll look like I'm going to the AAC to watch the Dallas Stars. Black IS one of their official colors.

I don't think black uniforms are that big a deal, if done right, but I will be wearing red & blue.
#1. It is all marketing.
I will be wearing my same blue shirt I wore to last year's bowl game. We have never lost when I have worn that shirt to a game!

I'm torn on this one. Obviously the blackout explanation is deceptive. If we wanted to honor our troops, we'd wear our "america [deleted] yeah" colors which happen to be red & blue. Either that, or we could have a camo-out. That would be cool.
While I am not a huge fan of the black uniforms from a traditional standpoint, if they're done right they'll look good. Like it or not, the kids are fired up for this and recruits eat it up. Personally, if we do it, i'm hoping for a matte black helmet with a red pony.
White is not a school color, yet I think our all whites are our sharpest look. Dickerson didn't wear Yale blue and Kyle doesn't wear Harvard red. Royal and fire engine are better looking than so there isn't a stink - before we get too upset about what our "official colors" are.
The black isn't an outrage to me, but I understand why it would be to some. Wear whatever the heck you want, but support the kids. Write letters to June or Orsini if you want, but booing our players black uniforms like many did the nutless horses would be counterproductive. I hope we can bury whatever our feelings are about the jersey color when they storm out of the tunnel, and cheer your face off for them.
Peruna is my mascot. Merry Christmas. Go Mustangs. Beat Army.
PS: At this time last year I was "blackout" at Rum Fire. I miss that.

My thoughts, too!!!! I'm feeling like we are being asked to honor someone, but don't think it's our service men & women. NEVER will I buy/own/wear BLACK SMU gear! RIDICULOUS!!! The 4 soccer mom family members in section 2 will be in red and/or blue. KICK 'EM MUSTANGS!!!!! Merry CHristmas!
