SMU is likely the only institution that is open today. 75, 35, 30, and 635 have all been getting backed up due to some nasty accidents and yet the school is still open. Why?!

I'm not going to be popular for this, but while I am sympathetic to anyone who falls and hurts themselves, I think that asking SMU to close for the day is taking it a little far. People are free to stay at home, why does SMU have to bear the responsibility of of canceling classes. If kids don't want to go to class because they're hung over they don't go. Let them plan for these things. Bad weather is part of life.

And on a more contrary note, I'd like to see a student sue SMU for falling on ice when he or she would have been at class had SMU not closed :)

hung over? what in the world are you talking about?

so every other school closing in the metroplex closing is an over reaction?

the reason people are pissed is because there are very real penalties for missing class.

this is an accreditation year and while i seriously doubt anyone in the admin would admit that they are cracking down i have seen the most aggressive attendance policies in 4 years instituted...in every one of my classes if i miss more than 2 i can be administratively dropped or lose at least 1, usually more, percentage point on my final grade regardless up to 5 absences at which time i am automatically failed.
